My search for this pistol started when I was talking to a friend that went to the Shot Show and shot it. He raved about it and that got me to thinking I need (want) one. It has been a year and a half since I got this gun. It started out as a love hate relationship. I loved the gun and it hated me, trying to find 10 round mags that worked was a pain. Tried Wilson Combat EMTs, Dawson Precision, and Tripp Research. I did polish the feed ramp just because I was having issues probably did not need to be done but it does not hurt. It took around 500 rounds to break the gun in and an extractor adjustment to get it to run reliably, Once broken in it runs flawlessly on Dawson and Tripp 10 round magazines. I shoot IDPA, USPSA.... and want the advantage of 10 + 1. I have put close to 3000 rounds through it and recently had to replace the coil springs (recoil, main, and firing pin). I was relatively new to the 1911 platform when I got this and it has been a learning curve, Once this 1911 is dialed in it is a delight to shoot, the trigger is awesome and will spoil you. With the adjustable rear sight you can set it up the way you want and the fiber optic front sight is highly visible, even on a night shoot once you learn how to hit it with the flashlight. I like the small diameter fiber optic, it shows you the front sight without filling up the notch. The grips are good, not as aggressive as my VZs on another gun but plenty of checkering to get a good grip even in the heat of summer. I added a Wilson Combat stainless flared magwell (I used a blued one on another gun and the finish failed) to make it a little easier to reload. Several friends who have shot it have it on their wishlist.
Now that it is broken in and dialed in this is my go to competition gun. It runs flawlessly, is more accurate than I am, and feels great. John Browning created an amazing pistol that continues to stand the test of time, there are few pistols that can boast the trigger and ergonomics of the 1911. Yes, it is a high maintenance pistol, it is not a Glock that you can just about throw into the dishwasher, but do you want a Ford or a Ferrari? Would and do recommend this pistol to my friends. A rating of good is an understatement so up it to awesome. You will not be disappointed.
