Interstate Arms Black Synthetic 12 Ga Defender w/18.5" Barre [982]
$209.00

Date Added: Tuesday 05 February, 2013
Ordered the Defender, received a Hawk 982. From what I see they are the same other than the name. Shotgun was packed real well in a styrofoam "case" with an extra chunk on both the front and rear sights.
Looking it over I could only find two faults with it. The forearm had a larger gap on the right side than the left. Removing the barrel you could see where the connecting arms are brazed to the support ring, one arm was noticeably higher, which led to the offset gap. The welds are the second minus that I gave it as they are bare, with no sort of coating on them.
Function wise, it works perfectly. Easy to load and unload. I read on one review that you couldn't unload the magazine without jacking the shells through the gun, but all you have to do it push the retainer to the side and the shell pops past it and right out.
Some reviews on the internet have stated problems with the last round feeding. We ran 50 rounds of 2 3/4" Centurion #8 shotshells through it pretty quickly, then 10 rounds of Fiocchi low recoil 00 buck, 2 3/4" as well, then 5 Remington 1 oz slugs, all functioned 100%. I shot some of the #8 from the hip, this gun is manageable and ran perfectly for myself, my shooting buddy and his 13 year old grandson and even the wife ran a few rounds of the low-recoil through it.
The sights were dead on at 50 yards with the slugs, the ghost rings are impressive. All in all a fantastic product that I'm sure will get lots of use, I recommend it 100%.
