Purchased three Remington 597 rifles from Bud. I've purchased one Remington 597 LR with Scope and two Remington 597 magnum rifles, One was purchased new and one used. All three perform well and eat all sort of ammo. I have not have any functioning issue. This is the reason I purchased a second rifle magnum rifle. Out of all of the rifle reviewed, I like the twin tool bolt guides, What I dislike is disassembling and reassembling the bolt to clean and oil the rifle. A tool I found on You Tube made this a simpler task. I would recommend Remington 597 rifles. Magnum Man

Bought the Remington .22 mag from Buds. Excellent service, as usual. The rifle, however, is another matter. Of all the rifles Ive owned in my long life, the Remington 597 .22 mag is, by far, the worst out-of-the-box rifle product I can remember seeing. It had feed failures, jams, and bolt stoppage before battery in a large # of the rounds we attempted. The trigger had lots of creep, and had about a 1000lb trigger pull which was so bad, we couldnt even get the rifle to sight with a Leupold scope. After I did a trigger job on the hammer lockup, and polished all the receiver parts even down to having to port the firing pin channel, the rifle funtions perfectly at about a 4lb pull. On a positvie note, the stock is pristine from the factory. If you have the time and inclination to have a bunch of work done on the 597, and can get past the price of the 597, its an OK rifle. If not, do yourself a favor and stay with the Ruger 10/22. The Ruger is less money, and far more reliable.
