Wow, this is a terrific revolver! I bought an LCR in .38 Special last year, the original one with no hammer, and really liked the gun a lot. But I was intrigued when I read that a 3" version was forthcoming. I decided to take a leap of faith and sell my original one and buy the new 3" LCRx. And I'm pleased to say the gamble paid off!
The 3" version builds on everything that's good about the original. The cam trigger is excellent! Just like the original. And the exposed hammer spur allows the gun to be cocked for a single action shot, improving versatility. The new sights are another improvement, being taller and more prominent than the old ones. And the white stripe on the front blade makes it much easier to quickly pick up in low light.
The gun looks great but the real test is in shooting the gun, and here it does not disappoint! The longer sight radius and improved sights makes it much easier to shoot well vs the 2" version. With minimal practice I was getting double taps about 2" apart at 25 feet. And out to 45 feet it was easy to keep all five shots in the head of a B25 target. Recoil also seems to be reduced, either due to the longer barrel or the slightly higher weight (according to my scale the unloaded gun comes in at 15.25 oz vs about 13.5 oz for the 2" version).
Lastly the old short Tamer grips from the original LCR will fit this new LCRx 3" just fine. You need a Torx T-10 wrench and about 90 seconds to do the swap. While the new larger grips probably work better on the range I like the old short grips better for concealability. The gun shoots just fine with the older short grips.
There's really nothing that I don't like about this gun! IMOHO it's a worthwhile improvement over the standard 2" version. Recommended!
