yes it is safe and will cycle just fine in your Winchester 73

Hi Clement, Yes the .45 is an excellent choice and will cycle though no problem. The pressure will be safe in a rifle. Been shooting this for years. Hope this helps.

This load will be fine in the 1873 rifle. The pressure will be safe in a rifle. Pistols are the main concern and HSM recommends not to use in : the following Revolvers: COLT SSA, COLT COWBOY, COLT ANACONDA, RUGER REDHAWK, RUGER NEW VAQUERO (POST 2004). However, I would ask that you seek the blessing of Winchester for safety/warranty reasons at 800-333-3288. (Their answer will matter most).
