  • Richard, No 5.56 Nato rounds out of this rifle. Just shoot .223. Plenty of good hard hitting, penetrating, fast expanding hunting .223 rounds out there. This barrel is marked .223 only.

  • Well hello there.I wouldn’t do it. It’s not recommended. Other bolt rifles are made for 556. Be safe and don’t shoot that from this rifle if you decide to get this one. You don’t want to injure yourself or anyone else in case the rifle “blows up.”

  • Richard, no Sir, you should not due to safety and warranty reasons since the 5.56NATO is loaded to higher CUP Pressures than .223. You could always consult with Savage on their recommendation at (413) 568-7001 or (800) 370-0708 Monday through Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM EST
