Last week i bought a very lightley used Remington 870 Marine Mag. with the nickel finnish. I have been wanting one of these shotguns for many years but have never seen one in the stores. I've seen the Mossbergs, and other cheaper ones, but not a Remington. I traded My very used Maverick 88 and about $100 boot for the gun, so I'm on cloud nine.. The cheapest I found is @ Buds for $611.00, my local store wants $750 for a new one and could not promise me even getting one. The cheapest used one I found was $599 and it looked like it had seen combat in Iraq and was put up wet.
Now being a Law enforcment officer we used the remington 870, in the blue steel and ext. shell tube. A great shotgun, but I wanted more. Today 10-5-09 I took mu new toy to the range. I shot about 50 rounds, and did not have one problem. I shot low brass, high brass, 00 buck, and 3'' mag. The recoil was alot better then any shotgun i've used and chambered very smooth, and fast. I had went throgh seven rounds very fast. The gun is spot one as far as aim, and is great at 25 - 50 yards. With and 18'' barrel its not a duck hunter.. Its a very easy shotgun to clean and oil. I use Rem-oil since it has teflon(non stick) which helps in the cleaning.
If your thinking about buying a remington 870 shot gun and have a chance and cash to buy a Marine Mag. you will be a very happy camper. I can tell you right now i'll be passing this one on to my grandchildren one day years to come. And the Nickle Marine Mag will only be going up in value and cost since Remington is now making a Marin Mag that is Black with like a Glock Finnish and no longer going to be making the nickle 870.
