I need some suggestions on pocket holsters

Postby Malifax on Sat Sep 20, 2008 5:58 am

So my Wife has a little Bersa thunder 380. I am tickled she is willing to carry it and is a good shot with it. She goes from purse to pocket carry on a daily basis. I was wondering if any of you learned folks had a suggestion for a good durable pocket holster for her? I might even carry this little pistol as we own 2 of them. FYI great little BUG gun and summer carry solution. Never had a lick of trouble out of either gun. For the gents with larger paws the $25.00 factory rubber fingertip grips are a must have.

Thats the site for Mika Holsters. From what I undersatand and have heard its a really nice holster.

I have a High Noon IWB and its really nice. They also make pocket holsters.

Also check into DeSantis, they make one called the Nemisis which is very popular.

I've got a DeSantis Nemesis on the way to the house right now. As soon as it gets here from Cabela's, I'm going to put a 637 Airweight in it...I'll let you know how it works.

I use a Nemesis for a Colt Det. Special in the summer in loose fitting shorts. It works well. They all print to some degree, but it's not noticeable to the average eye.

I said I'd report back when I got the Desantis Nemesis...so...

I received it today. It's a nice holster, my 637 fits in it nice and snug. The trigger guard and the hammer is completely covered by it, so that makes me real happy. In a pair of khaki pants (my typical daily work clothing), it fits in my pocket nicely and doesn't print very much at all...looks real good and feels good...but I'm not happy with the draw. If I try to draw it 10 times, 7 times the gun comes out of my pocket with the holster still firmly attached...the other 3 the holster comes halfway out of my pocket, grabs something, and the gun comes on out...but kinda clumsy. Maybe the pocket on these pants is just bigger than normal, I don't know. I'm not the most graceful human being, but will practice on it some.

So in a nutshell - Like the holster, well made, covers the trigger guard, covers the hammer, but doesn't stay in the pocket real well on draw.

Almost any pocket holster is not going to be a quick draw sort of thing. It should be used as in reaching for a wallet or casually reaching into your front pocket. One must assess their situation and act accordingly with what method you use. This is why most the time I try to be holstered on my hip under a sweater, long shirt out of pants, sweatshirt, vest, or maybe some sort of jacket. That's why I call my Ruger LCP and my Colt Mustang Pocket lite my Sunday go to meetin' guns. They do real nice in my front or back pocket in a Desantis Nemisis. :D

I see what you're saying Rich...makes sense. I had never messed with pocket holsters before.

Rich is absolutely correct. I use the Nemesis with a P32. This is more of a "Slide your hand into your pocket" thing as opposed to any quick draw.

Love that Nemesis. Very simple and easy.

Don Hume makes a quality holster at a reasonable price.

My daily carry is an S&W 642. I just traded my Don Hume for the Nemesis. I will still use the Don Hume with some pants but the Nemesis seems to print less with dress pants and thinner material. I may be excessive complosive but it seems that every holster I get, I find a situation where it is better than the others. My wife laughs at me for changing holsters so often. but some holsters just work better than others depending or what I am wearing. It was cool the the other day and i did not even carry my 642, I wore my FN9 in a Galco belt holster under my jacket. I guess I am a slave to fashion.

ps. I have heard great things about the Mika pocket holster. I am considering ording one.
