What's your home defense gun?

I guess my dog is the primary home defense... hopefully will scare away trouble from ever entering. If not, he'd definitely bark enough to alert me and help give me time to wake up, get gun(s) ready, send my wife hiding and calling 911. Maybe I just work too much and sleep too hard, but I don't really see much of a point to home defense guns without a med/large dog (or dogs) to wake you up and buy you some time if there was a home burglar or assault. :)

For guns, I use a 870 20ga tactical with one round of #4 shot and then rest filled with #3 buck. More buck and slugs on side shell carrier just in case situation called for it. I got a Ruger LCP loaded with Hornaday Critical as backup... will probably switch to a CZ83 once pistol price/supply normalizes again.

For work I carry G22 and G27 for back-up. The G27 comes home w/ me and on occasion the G22. As fae as sleepy time defense, I have my S&W 340PD or G27 next to me and my Moss 500 (18" w/ pistol grip, 6 pos stock, and surefire) underneath the bed (ez access). The wife has her G19 w/ Trigicon NS next to her and her Moss 500 JIC Mariner w/ 8 rnds of mixed 00 Buckshot and slug. If you get past the 2 Rotties, you have done very well. I have plenty more in the safe if the others happen to not work!

MY trusty little SPNY sits at my bedside. Loaded with 3 shot shells, and 2 lead flat nose. If that aint enough, i have a HP 380 within easy reach in my underwear drawer loaded with HPs.

Hello to all,
My 2 choices at the moment are a Detonics .45 Mark VI Combatmaster and a Glock model 33 (357 Sig cal.) I've got a few pistols but I like to carry one of these two also. Both are very dependable and accurate.

Later,

16 ga. Remington 1148 in the Den. Styre 9mm on the nightstand, 12GA 870 Wingmaster in the Bedroom and an 38 stubby in my pocket most of the time.

UPDATE>>> Since this post I have added a FNP9 9mm to the bedroom, Moved the 9mm Styre to a location near the front door and added an older Mossberg 20ga to a location near the walkout garage door.

I use a S&W 686, .357 mag. I have several auto's I'd trust equally, like my Wilson Combat CQB compact and Sig P226, but my wife can't easily pull the slide back on either, so we use the revolver. Besides, a revolver never has a FTF :)

We have a 3 pound Chihuahua with a 200db bark. He would surely wake me, and startle the intruder long enough for me to saddle up my S&W 500.
I'm alright, I just look this way!

I have various (5) revolvers loaded with .38 Special hollow points scattered about the house -- A .357 shot indoors will incapaciate you as much as anyone you shoot -- Try it sometime -- your ears will hurt for days and never return to normal -- I like revolvers because they require no thinking to make work when you are not really awake -- I also have two large foul tempered dogs that sleep with me -- When my wife was alive she shot as much as I did -- My Mother shot four burglars in fifty years (the last one when she was 84) so I grew up with guns in the house and would not feel right without several :D

I can surely appreciate all the handguns mentioned. I own several but I still believe a shotgun is the best home defense weapon. I forget who to contribute the quote to., General Norman Schwarzkopf I believe, but it was said. " A hand gun is a wonderful weapon to hold off the bad guys until you can reach your shotgun". I agree 100%
