Concealed carry opinions

Postby justme on Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:41 am

In July, I got a Keltec 380 for hot weather carry. I can drop it in a pocket, holster or not, and "forget" it's there. I hope it has enough "horsepower"; I have 3 factory mags, staggered with ball and Police Hydra Shok.
Last week I got a Kahr P9; wanted a PM9, but hard to get. The P9 is still much smaller than a lot of 9's. I load it's mags with Fed 115 +P+ 9BPLE, and Corbon 115+p DPX.
All along, I've also had an S&W Airweight Bodyguard; I load it with 158 LSWCHP +P.
Anyone who has one or more of the above guns, please tell me your opinion of them, also any peculiarities they might have. Thanks!
I'm alright, I just look this way!

For my CCDW I carry a Glock 27 in .40 S&W. It holds nine rounds and with a good inside the pants holster you forget its there but can get to it fast if need be. I have found in a CCDW that it dosent matter what brand, cal, or size as long as your Proficient and Confident with the weapon. On a note you get what you pay for. If you carry a $89 .380 hi-point, i feel sorry for you. It might shoot, but is your life worth $89?? I might carry a $500 Glock, but i know when i pull it, its going to work and that I can count on it.. Im not saying we should all go out and buy $1,200 kimbers ( which i think are a little over the top ) but a good soild weapon....
When in doubt, empty the magazine and reload... Its always better to be tryed by 12 then carryed by 6....

Yes, best to stay with a reputable gun. To me, theres no question about the S&W and the Kahr that I use. I've heard mixed opinions on the Keltecs, but mine has been flawless for over 100 rnds. The only "cheapo "I have in my small assortment is a Cobra 22 mag derringer; if I carry it at all, it's along with one of the other guns mentioned; but it has worked fine so far.
With cold weather coming, I can conceal my Sig 220 45 or my DW 357 fairly easily, also.

About the only thing that I have heard from Keltec owners that is derogatory is that they can be picky about ammo, but if you carry a pistol you should shoot it enough to find out any quirks that it might have in regards to feeding. A lot of people say that the light weight and trigger design makes them literally painful to shoot a lot.

I CC a SW40VE .40 cal, polymer frame, 14+1 round capacity.

I carry an FN FNP9 and / or a S&W 642. I have run bunches and bunches of ammo through both with no problem. I will say I do not buy a wide variety of ammo. I carry mostly Speer Gold Dot or Hornaby Critical Defense, (just my preference). When ammo was tighter I did shoot a couple cases of Winchester White box and Remington with no problems. I do have several friends that carry various sizes and styles of Kel-Tec's and they are very happy with them. None of them would carry a weapon they do not feel comfortable with or that they question the realibility.
