Roadkill Bill---

Can you explain why my gun is marked .38 S&W SPL +P on the bbl and what it means?

When you see a +P rating on a gun that means it is rated as sutiable for +P ammo -- Roadkill and I may not agree on everything -- but I retired from the gun business nine years ago -- and I still say any Mod 10 will hold up to any +P ammo -- S&W is very conservative by nature -- Liabilty and all that -- look how they have added " lawyer proof" stuff to all the new ones -- but then -- It's your gun :)

I know what it means, but I wanted to hear it from Roadkill.

Do new 10s have a +P rating on the barrel? I haven't looked at a new one in many years? I think they (S&W) are being conservative for a good reason. Remember the Model 10 has been around in some shape or form since 1898. Some were produced before +P ammo came out. The P in +P is pressure. These older guns were not made for that added pressure. Now, as Butchbird stated, a "modern K frame" revolver should be able to handle the +P loads. I just don't know when "modern" is? Guns manufactured after . . . ?

Butchbird;
Hey brother, my sense of humor can be classified as "warped" and I didn't mean anything as a personal attack. As my wife often says, "Do you know what that sounds like?" I say, "No," and then she explains and I feel like a jerk. I'm sorry. I would much rather have you on my side than not! A public apology was in order.
