Whatever she is comfortable and will carry. She will not carry a gun that she not comfortable with. Even worse, she may carry it but will not use it. A .22 is better than no gun. Most of the time just getting shot is enough deterent. My wife carried a.22 for several years. We recently found a S&W .32 magnum that she loves. Yea, sure I wish she would carry a .45 and have the confidence to use it. But I feel good knowing if push comes to shove she has absolutely no reservations about using the .32

I agree with the .380 I have a Bersa Thunder .380 loaded with Federal Hydro Shok for my BUG and carry my PX4 Storm .45 loaded up with Hornady XTP .45+p... boy that ought da do it

I agree, and I carry Ruger LCP also. I have 9mm also, but for a small gun, I like the LCP. I'm confident that, in my hands, it'd still get the job done if need be. First and foremost, you need a gun you will actually carry, and the big 8" barrel 44mag or 10mm in your glove box or nightstand doesn't do jack for you when you get mugged in an alley or the park. Personally, I've found that my 9mm are at least twice as big/heavy, which makes them uncomfortable and hard to properly conceal. I keep the 9mm at the office and another at home (along with shotguns), but on my person, I'm a trim guy who usually wears professional business dress, so that LCP's just the gun that seems to fit my needs. To each his own.

After you find a gun you will carry daily, it comes down to practice and skill level and more practice IMO...
Just like Tony Stewart driving a Geo Metro could easily smoke me driving an Indy car, a skilled operator who just has a PPK but practices weekly would dominate a gunfight against a novice with a 357 that he's only shot a couple times.

I have a KelTec 380 loaded with Hydra Shoks; I guess having that on me is better than having a 45 in the cabinet(I also have a 45 Sig). Sometimes I carry a 638 S&W with 158 +P LSWCHP, or a Glock 26 with Fed 115 +P+ HP's.

I'm quite confident with my .22 mag.HP. When properly placed it will drop anyone quickly. But the thing is, the paper targets at the range I'm getting those small groups on with my 2" barrel .22mag HP's, aren't throwing much lead in my direction. So, I've got to consider the shock value of a less accurately placed round, in which case I'd rather have something larger, like a .357mag HP. Or at the very least, a .380. Unless they're willing to hold still, hold fire, let me have time to site in that is. But I'm still gonna practice almost daily with that little 22.mag, because no matter if I'm in the grocery store, barber chair, or behind the pulpit, it's always with me.

I also have my PT24/7 Pro Compact 9 ml in an inside the pant holster. Of course this isn't exactly what I'd call concealed, but I'm not really overly concerned about that. There's just enough of the 15+1 clip and grip sticking out for easy removal. And you'd be surprised that most people seldom notice I'm carrying.(and not at all without my shirt tucked in...I'm not what you'd call skinny) Over the past few days I took my Bersa .380 out of the drawer to the range and,I had some serious feed/jam issues. So back to the drawer with it for now, until I can get it to the gunsmith. I'm NOT gonna wait another 2 months like I did for the .357 mag. I'll just pay and be done with it. When I do get it fixed, I think I'll keep it at my bedside and use the 8 shot.22 mag as a bug to the 9ml. As comfortable as it feels, I just don't trust the .380 like I do the little revolver. Plus I'm a much better shot with a 2" .22 mag. than 3" of .380.

SSG Jay . the fact is the most trusted round is the one you are well practiced with and have confidence that you can hit what your looking at . That means both at close range 2 ( two ) feet and a distance fight that your backing away from at 20 + feet. I like a revolver at close range and one of the most outstanding and often over looked is a .22 WWMR..The WWMR is a little round that has 100 yard range and is down right impressive to those who discover it . Put that round in a short barrel revolver and you will need little else for a car defence . Now i know there are guys out there that say nothing less than a 45 our like the 38 or the 357 but your extreamly close range and you cant be dealing with recoil jump .. Keeping the muzzle on target is the key to any defence . Just something to think about . why would he get a 22 when you can get a little lcp or keltec that will fit her hand unless she's 4 and has more stopping power. I dont understand why there would even be a question.

trogdor do you know anything about the .22 WWMR Round . Gees when you gig someone at least have the respect to lend a reason why .. And one other thing you dont know what the thread starter wife likes. he asked a question and was given a stright answer . have the same respect .
