Tommy Gun

Tommy Gun

Postby jwr381 on Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:44 pm

I am thinking about getting a new Thompson M1927A-1 for a Christmas present to myself. I've always liked the looks of this weapon and I believe it will be a lot of fun at the range. It might very useful if TSHTF. I do reload .45 ACP (my favorite round). The only thing that bothers me is the weight is 11.5 lbs for the steel receiver, although they make an aluminum receiver which is 8 lbs. The lighter gun is also cheaper. Here are the links for the guns I am condering:

Has anyone had any experience with either of these guns? How does the aluminum receiver hold up vs. the steel one?
Or should I save my money for something else?

I like the .45acp also my favorite round, the Tommy platform would be fun at the range shooting paper and plates and if you're loading them I'd go for it. My brother n law is retired and reloads .45 for me & him. well I get the brass and bullets usally FMJ 230's and the primers but he usally covers the powder and assembley He has a CX4 in .45 and it's a blast to shoot because of the big ol .45 round.

A buddy of mine used to have a Kahr arms Thompson. While I do appreciate the nostalgia of a Thompson, I did not like shooting it much. The sights were horrible, it weighed a ton, and the stock was funky (LOP). That being said, I still think they are cool guns. I just will never own one. You would be much better suited with an AR-15 with the conversion to shoot 45acps. Just my opinion though.
