What should I consider when buying a handgun safe?

Postby SoonerDude on Thu Dec 11, 2008 7:03 am

I have an 8 month old baby girl and she gets into EVERYTHING so naturally before shopping for a firearm I shopped for a handgun safe first. I would like to know what brands I should be looking at, how much money I should be spending, and what type of safe I should be looking at. So far I have settled on a safe found exclusively at Walmart, a safe made by Honeywell. Here is the web adress if you would like to see it... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=5127163 ...and if your not familiar with computers, like me, highlite the web adress, I have provided, with your arrow key, right click, and then left click copy on the pop up menu on your screen... Select the web adress bar and everything in it, press delete on your keyboard, right click, then left click paste, and finally press Enter on your keyboard. Your internet browser should take you to the Walmart webpage with the safe and its details on it. Please tell me what you think.

Can't say I know a thing about safes. The kids are all out of the house, so the only thing I'd require as far as a safe goes, would be that it was too heavy to get out the door. When they were still around and too young to be taught, I used a steel trigger lock with the key close enough to grab in a hurry but not where they could reach it.Not a fool proof solution, I know...and keeping a trigger lock on a gun or in a safe, pretty much makes it useless for home defense.imo Chances are, if you ever need it in your home, you'll need it in a hurry.
