Hi point

Postby trogdor626 on Wed Nov 04, 2009 6:20 pm

Need some help. I am looking for an inexpensive but realiable gun that my girl can shoot so I dont have to worry when I am not home. I have heard good and bad things about high point and was curious those of you that have them after the first 100 or so rounds where you get jams is it reliable from that point on or does it continue?

I have a friend with a Hi Point 9ml. and he complained of a lot of jams. When I shot it I had 2 feed jams in 5 shots. He seems to think it's a clip problem but I'm not so sure. That's been about a yr. ago. (he paid $130) I'll see him tonight or this Sunday and will ask about it and get back to you. But one thing I do know. The dealer I get my guns from won't carry them in his store. He calls them "disposables".

Don't have much time but just talked with my friend that has the Hi Point 9 ml. He said the gun doesn'r load the last round almost every time which probably means the problem is the clip. But he also said he's only fired about 100 rnds through it in the past year, so ya can't tell much from that. Sorry I couldn't help ya. Will still ask around.

I hate to use the word NEVER, but if given a choice of almost any other firearm I would NEVER trust a Hi-point in the protecting of my own life or that of my family or friends. :D

i never trusted my hi point to be there if the stuff ever hit the fan . I just couldn't rely on its ability to be fire when needed. I just don't trust any hi point .

I really dislike saying this but the Hi Point pistols are crap. I have never seen one that was 100% reliable. The Carbine on the other hand is a sleeper. This is a fun gun and a great home protection unit. Plus I don't have to buy 2 different kinds of ammo! If you want an inexpensive/reliable pistol I would push you toward Bersa. I have had a good deal of experience with these and IMHO they are a lot of bang for the buck.

What was that word, oh yeah, NEVER trust a hi-point for any type of protection. I owned a carbine. A fun gun? Yes. Reliable? NO WAY! 1st time at the range the heat shield fell off, because it was held in place by the front sight that also fell off! This weapon will give you great training in dealing with jams and misfires so maybe it's not all bad. :D

Sorry to disagree with you Rich but you apparently didn't read the owners manual before going to the range. It suggests firmly that you thoroughly take the gun apart and clean it before firing. I found several screws and bolts were not snugged down to prevent damage in shipping. I tightened my 9mm carbine up and would take this bad boy to any gunfight I had to go to.
