This lever gun has a side loading gate on the receiver. You should always pay attention to round count when loading so as not to cause bullet setback which could cause over an pressure spike that could potentially damage the rifles action. Although rare, it can happen.

It loads from the side like the Winchester. I have one in 44 mag and I am waiting for the .357 to come back in stock
