acquired 317 from my brother's estate. Looks like never fired. I have other S&W revolvers and cocking is smooth and easy. Is this normal? Is it because of spring design or ???

It should lighten up with use Edward. I get snap caps and cycle the action and it helps when you can't get to the range. Hope that works!
