  • I asked what department or organization in France did these come from. No answer on that but I've researched the proof marks and they are all Belgian in origin. The cursive Y means inspected in 1986, the ball with a flame on top and letter G inside means a foreign arm proof test, and the block Y with a star on top is the inspector mark of Francois Delsaux. They may have been sent to France at some point but they were inspected and proof marked in Belgium. Still curious as to who used these.

  • I bought this, among other reasons, because i am french and wanted a chance at a french police revolver. i have found 2 proof marks of mine. One looking older with more wear is a german eagle with an N designating the Ulm proof house in germany. The second is the mark of Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Etienne proof house. So mine seemed to have been proofed in both countries during its life.

  • I got a 10-6 (1972) and it has what looks like a German black eagle with a N under it, and a some other squiggle that looks like a single deer antler. I don't know if this is relevant but here's a link to the NRA Proof Marks PDF: nramuseum.org/media/940944/proofmarks.pdf If this is accurate mine came in through West Germany while the wall was still up. Neat piece of history if it's true.

  • You can go to Sidam {France} website and contact them. They may be able to help.

  • John, All I can share about the Belgium/French connection. A company called Sidam Belgique in Belgium is the primary Smith& Wesson importer for Europe and specialize in law enforcement supplies. The company/subsidiary in France that supplies the Police Municipale called Sidam would get the firearms from S&W via Belgium. Beside the Police Municipale they also supply goverment bank couriers. They have since switched to M&P semi autos and a type of sig pro designed just for them called model 2022 because that's when they plan to replace them

  • I received mine today. It has a sticker on the side with “Augizeau” printed on it. I was hoping it was the name of town. All I found was a French transportation company by that name. Perhaps it’s the name of the officer? Maybe it means something to one of you.
