Patrick, The Henry rifles come with a "standard" cardboard box. The rifle is inside a plastic bag and includes an instruction manual. I believe that it is further packaged in an outer cardboard box I don't know for sure as the FFL will have to remove it to verify the rifle is indeed inside the factory box and to verify serial numbers, etc. I have purchased two Henry rifles (357mag/38 spl and a 22LR). I can't verify that an outer shipping box was used as the FFL presented the rifles to me with the factory cardboard box open so I could inspect the rifles prior to completing the paperwork. I purchased one of the rifles from Buds and the other from a different on-line source. I personally would pay the small fee Buds charges for shipping insurance. If you ever had to work with either of the major shippers for damages to items, its a nightmare. Having the insurance gives me peace of mind and I only have to deal with Buds. if there is an issue. As to loading, I believe all of Henry's rifles are tube loaded. They make one model that is side gate loaded, but the Big Boy 44 mag is tube loaded. If you buy this rifle I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. They are easy to shoot and don't have a great deal of recoil as these are fairly heavy rifles.
