Quick answer is no. Arched mainspring housing is standard on model 1911 A1. Flat on 1911. Arched was considered an improvement that aided point ability. I never could tell much difference when shooting.

Chris - all 1911s have interchangable back straps (called "main spring housing" on a 1911). These are available from many sources, in many different configurations including flat, with a smooth finish. They aren't too difficult to change, but any gunsmith could change one out for you in a few minutes, and the charges would be minimal.
