617 is a medium size frame 7 round revolver the 605 is a small frame 5 shot revolver Taurus model 650 CIA 5-shot .357 revolver: Width= 1.378"
Taurus model 617 7-shot .357 revolver: Width = 1.531"
the frame height is 2/10 of an inch taller also

The 605 is closer to a S&W J frame, where the 617 is the equal to a S&W K/L Frame. Only a few (4-6) ounces difference maybe, and the 617 just a bit larger. They do use different holsters ... with the 605 taking a J frame S&W holster and the 617 a K/L S&W size holster. Hope this helps. Not as up on my Taurus info as I should be, but I think this is right.
