which option is best to do USPSA competition? Also, since (as I understand) you have to start with DA on first shot for guns with hammers, is it highly recommended to have a trigger rework (to get a lighter DA pull)?

I'm a competitor (A class), CRO and match director for USPSA. The best place to start would be a CZ 75 Shadow or Shadow 2. If you cannot afford that you will not be able to afford to shoot competitively because the cost of ammo will quickly over run the cost of any gun. The only time you will start in DA would be in Production Division. If you shoot Limited Division you can start cocked and safety applied or decocked. The SP-01 is a fine pistol but needs some work as you know to become competitive. Stay away from decocker models because they will decock during the course of fire if you happen to put your thumb behind the decocker during recoil. We all prefer the DA/SA guns for that reason.
