  • Yes the new model has the Safety Transfer Bar Lock work (No internal locks or Keys). -- Prior to 1973, the Single-Six was produced without the transfer bar mechanism, making it less safe to carry with all six chambers loaded, and with the hammer resting on a loaded chamber. -- When Ruger came out with the "New" models, the design changed over to the use of a transfer bar which fell out of the way of the firing pin once the trigger was released, and the cut in the hammer kept the hammer from touching the firing pin, thus making the guns safe for carry with six rounds. A new hammer was installed at the same time as the transfer bar.
