will my barrel explode?

Read on AR15.com that steel will melt my barrel like welding metal. Is that true?

NO, NOT TRUE. Your AR will function FINE! A few things, wolf 223 polyformance can be slightly underloaded and dirty (which can lead to some jam). That's pretty much all the con. Some expensive AR like Danial Defense are known to dislike steel case but vast majority of AR has no issue. Your gun won't sustain damage from this ammo. Also don't trust AR15.com. I hope this helps. Cheers!

Steel cases are harder on your action.

The polymer coating on Wolf Polyformance does seem somewhat sensitive to a hot gun but that should only cause a slight drop in reliability and possibly cause more failures to extract. As far as rounds cooking off in the chamber or other more catastrophic issues I would say the risk is almost 0 unless you are purposely putting your gun through a torture test of hundreds of rounds in rapid fire. And even then your gas tube should fail well before the barrel.

John, no Sir. I fire thousands of rounds of the Polyformance per year in AR's, AK's and AR-10's including Drum dumps and have not experienced any issues whatsoever. Wolf now uses a much higher temperature resistant coating and have been for over 9 years. This myth came from the older Lacquer Coated Steel Cased ammunition that was gumming up chambers and barrels when extended fast fire was happening. Cheers and stay safe!
