Super light this is what I carry. You can still do the hammer but it will not get caught up.

I purchased two for my daughters. An outstanding pocket gun. OEM trigger springs are pretty heavy, so I had them replaced, giving a lighter trigger pull. After springs replaced, my daughter fired one round, turned to me and said ’thank you’. Highly recommend this revolver for a personal protection weapon.

This is an EXCELLENT pocket gun!!! First off, it's a Smith and Wesson revolver, so it would normally be "'nuff said," but I have to say that I initially figured it would only be effective as a close-quarters weapon (considering it has such a short barrel), but I was wrong. I tried it at my 100-yard range and easily hit a 10" x 18" silhouette steel target from that distance. VERY impressed with the accuracy of this well-made and easily concealed handgun!

This is a good gun. It shot well for me, and I liked the ability to cock it if I chose to, although I almost never did. My buddy rather quickly talked me out of it, offering me a trade that I couldn't pass up. I've since replaced it with a Model 442 No Lock, also from Bud's. I saw no difference on my targets with either gun, both will shoot a palm-sized double action group at 15 yards if you know what you are doing. In a small, light revolver, I just don't think you can go wrong with any of the Smith and Wesson J-frames. And the only place I buy anymore is Bud's. Superior pricing and service.

Great CCW option for deep concealment. Very light weight and conceals easily. Length and heighth are about the same as most sub compact semi autos like the Shield, XDS and Glock 43, but the gun is narrower than all of them everywhere except in the cylinder which aids in the concealment abilities. As far as shootability, for the size and weight I was surprised. It lets you know it is there when it goes off, but it is easily controlled with proper form. The trigger is actually decent and it is easy to quickly stage with practice. It handles accuracy decently for what it is designed for. If looking for a deep conceal handgun, this should be on the radar.

Luv this gun, great carry piece, lite and easy to hide. Action is very smooth and it is accurate. I follow the keep it simple theory. I have 5 rounds, as stated in many self defense articles usually you only fire 3 rounds. I carry a little 5 round striper clip in a pocket if really needed. I like the fact you can cock the hammer if needed for fine work. You don't have to worry about a bad primer, FTE or FTF just keep pulling the trigger. Don't have to worry about a slide and it can be fired from a coat pocket or a purse. Purchased 3, one for my wife , son and myself. Have put close to 500 rounds through mine and no problems.

Love it! Always wanted a light .38 S&W for a carry gun. The day after receiving my new 638, went down to the pistol range and emptied 3 boxes of 158 grain into targets anywhere from 5 yards out to 30 yards. Accurate and easy to shoot. Can't beat it. Bought a paddle holster and never without it. But I still keep my little LCP .380 in my pocket also. Going down to get some .38 p's. Should have a little more kick. Maybe its the size of my trigger finger but needed a band aid on my first digit. Got a little raw from shooting.

Once again, Bud's delivers! Third purchase and will not be the last. The Smith and Wesson 638 is a great gun for personal protection/off duty carry. Very light and lots of self defense rounds to choose from. If you don't carry it, it can't save you.
