I love this shotgun! It's all fashion design is elegant and simple yet reliable it is very accurate especially with slugs with a fairly tight pattern at short range within 25 feet. I think this shotgun in spite of the "dated" design would still be a viable home defense shotgun. I will say it is relatively light compared to its more modern counterparts so the kick with the 2 1/2 inch HV tactical slugs I was using was bruising but that doesn't change how spot on this shotgun is.

I just picked it up yesterday. Seems pretty good for the price. It does need to be cycled several times before it gets smooth. Seversl times meaning 100 or so times. Looking forward to shooting it soon. Fit and finish i would give it a c but thats ok for an everyday shooter.

This was a good price on a good gun. After initial cleaning, it cycled very smoothly. It functioned perfectly from the mag tube and by loading through the gate. Overall I was I, pleased with the fit and finish. The price on original winchester model 97s has gone off the deep end, so for 400 bucks to get a very strong, very good quality clone is a deal that shouldn't be passed up. I would recommend this 12ga to anyone in the market for one. I may even order a second one.

Very nice "clone" of the original Winchester 1897 pump action with exposed hammer. The stock appears to be oil finished Walnut, and the metal surface has a decent matte-gloss blued finish thing going on. Wood to metal fit where the stock meets the receiver could be better, but at least the wood stands proud so it can easily be shaped in to match the metal. Initial impression is that that shotgun feels lighter and shorter than other pump guns and this is probably due to the short receiver since the bolt retracts out the back. With a minimum legal length barrel this gun would be short indeed! The action as it comes from the box is a bit stiff, and it takes a bit to figure out the gun needs full, positive strokes in both directions for best reliability. There is NO external safety - if the hammer is cocked, the gun is "live" and if the hammer is down, the gun may still have a shell in the chamber. When cocked, the bolt is "locked" and will not retract unless either the trigger is pulled, or the bolt release on the right side of the receiver is depressed. Be VERY CAREFULLY hand-cycling this shotgun with live ammo! It has no "disconnector" so as long as the trigger is held back and the pump actuated, the gun will "close on firing"! This was not uncommon back in the time this gun was originally built, and is present on other shotguns such as the original Ithaca M37 (and Chinese copies) pump guns. As long as the shooter knows and understands that the gun will "slam fire," and trains for it, then the feature has positives, but it must be pointed out so someone doesn't start racking shells through the gun while holding the trigger back as can be done with most "modern" pump guns. The hammer does have a "half-cock" or "safety" notch to catch a falling hammer should it trip off the sear during cycling, but be careful NOT to apply pressure to the trigger during manual cycling of rounds. Having said that, the 1897 clone does incorporate a feature I wish a lot of other shotguns had...the twin bars that hold shells in the magazine tube can be easily released by the action of pressing two buttons on either side of the receiver...the shells will start flying out the magazine! The "carrier/lifter" on the '97 leaves the loading port completely unblocked when in the full up position so one never really "needs" to cycle shells through to clear the gun....just hit the release buttons and clear the magazine in a hurry! Probably the best thing to do is liberally oil the internals and work the action over and over to smooth everything out and get a feel for how the parts function....the carrier/lifter does not "pop down" until the very last point of retraction, and the bolt lock functions the same during closure...so a good, strong, positive operation of the pump is essential to get the best out of this gun. Also be aware the gun has a trigger "stop" that, if screwed in too far, could cause the trigger to fail to reset, or fully reset during cycling which could result in hammer fall during closure even if the operator is not pulling the trigger. Overall this is a very nice copy of the original Winchester 1897 that comes made with modern steel...basically "new" and capable of being utilized in the self-defense/survival role every bit as well as all the designs that came behind it. The design of the magazine tube mount is such that adding an extension would be quite easy, though the gun starts out holding 5 1 out of the box. Would be nice to see if and how this gun might function with those short Aguila slugs which would nearly double capacity! For the price....everyone should buy one of these....

This gun is awesome. Perfect for anyone who has an interest in old west firearms or is a WW1 or WW2 history buff like myself. Planned on turning this into a trench gun but may just keep it the way it is. Will run almost anything in it. Will state that at first it will be a little stiff, but once you shoot some rounds through it, it loosens up and is much more manageable. Would suggest to buy one while they are in stock, cause this is the first one I have seen in about a year and a half. Love this gun and Buds had it too my local FFL in a matter of days. Sincerely, Mr. Rutledge

Excellent clone of a Winchester Model 1897! I picked this beauty up yesterday and took it to the boonies this morning to break her in. My particular shotgun was shop-worn. That would upset a few buyers but it would have looked this way anyway after a few rounds so no biggie. The fit & finish is superb. The walnut stock & forend looks great and the deep/high-luster bluing is much better than I expected. I don't like the laser-etched numbers & letters but that's to be expected these days. The manufacturer is marked as S.C. China but the internet reports these as being made by Norinco. Make sure you tighten all the screws before firing because 2 on my gun were very loose. A good pre-cleaning is also a good idea although mine was surprisingly clean. I fired some #4 buck, 00 buck, a rifled slug, and some #8 birdshot; all with no issues. Just make sure you work the slide without hesitation otherwise you'll get a double-feed. This is also typical for original M97's. I give this shotgun 5-Stars because it looks great and functions perfectly. Thanks Bud!

These have dried up nationwide. I don't know at this time whether they are imported or not but reviews are old which suggest they won't be back in stock anytime soon. You can do the "Wish List" thing but you may put some feelers out at some popular auction sites and private individual sales.
