Peter - Actually, for not much more than the price of an extra barrel, you could buy the 28" Dickinson pump 12 gauge with the mobil choke tube system, for sporting use .. and not worry about swapping barrels, thereby keeping your defense shotgun reserved 24/7 for defensive use. I think that's what I would consider.

This gun is not a toy. It will not cycle light-load ammo, and recoil management is a real chore. 1145FPS #8 Winchester Super-target will fail to eject every round. Fiocchi 1500FPS, #2 shot cycles flawlessly. Your wife will shoot 1 round, maybe 2, and hand the gun back to you with a "Never again" look on her face. My neighbor, an avid shooter, ran 3 rounds through it and handed it back. every shot was a hit, but even that did not encourage him to keep shooting. That said, I find it fun to shoot! Recoil management and the resulting time-to-target acquisition will never make it popular in competition, but it was not built for competition. It is built for self-defense/home defense. It is dead-on accurate with the ghost-ring sights, so shot #1 will be on target, making shots 2-5 less important. If it were a horse, I would call it a "man's horse." It will never be your favorite gun to shoot, unless one day you need it to save your life. As a bonus, if you lend it to a friend, you can be assured he will return it.
