I use an XD 45 as an every day carry. I bought this for the defensive shooters course at ESI; needed a 9mm for the class (9mm ammo is provided, and we shot almost 1000 rounds in 4 days). It took a bit to get used to the Safety/Decocker/Action selector lever. For safety purposes on the range, I had to choose between leaving the lever horizontal in SA/DA, and operating the safety before I took a shot and decocking after I was done; or pushing the lever down in DA only (the safety is only operable if you have it cocked and locked). It was a smooth shooter, and performed near flawlessly. The only slight problem (which was only a course semi-engineered problem) was that we didnt clean the weapons at all, and at around the 600 round mark, I had to proactively ensure that the slide was seated all the way forward. The dirtier it got, the more I had to ensure that it seated the round all the way in. Wasn't a big deal though, as we were training to gauge our reactions to malfunctions. The rotating barrel makes shooting very smooth and easy to reestablish sight picture; not to mention quick as well. I love the ambidextrous features, the reduced recoil and barrel flip, and the ergonomics. It performed great and I'm glad I chose this unique pistol. The breakdown isnt too hard either once you get used to it. The changeable backstraps, adjustable front sight, and robust magazines are an awesome bonus but I wish it came with three mags instead of two, as the magazines are pretty pricey. It's hard to find holsters for it, and only found a handful of places that sold them; half of which made it to order.
