Anschutz 1416 D Heavy Barrel .22 Long Rifle Bolt Action Rifle - Blue/Black, 23" Barrel, 5+1 Rounds, Wood

I've sold off a lot of guns lately and decided to kind of splurge with some of that money and buy a higher end .22lr. Anschutz has a good reputation and after some research I went with the 1416 D HB. Right out of the box you can tell this is a high quality rifle. The machining is nice, the finish, and even the wood are great, and everything just seems right on it. This being the heavy barrel (HB) version I was surprised the barrel wasn't a little thicker, closer to my CZ 455 Varmint. It's more of medium heavy profile I guess. That doesn't take away from it. It shoots great, and keeps down the weight a bit. Ejection of empties is sometimes a little wonky. They don't always go straight out the right side. Sometimes they go up and left, but still make it out. Weird. I bought two sets of scope mounts for this gun. A set of medium Talleys and a Picatinny rail from diproductsinc .com. For some reason I was never able to get the rail to go on there. Someone said there are problems with the Anschutz modesl with the scalloped receivers, though DIP says it should work just fine. I wonder now if maybe the screws just weren't long enough. Out of frustration I gave up on the rail and put the Talley mounts on. They fit my Leupold vx3i 6.5-20x40 EFR scope perfectly and make for a classic looking combination. Despite the ejection issues and the Picatinny not fitting (I don't think it has anything to do with the rifle) I'd rate it 5/5.
