The USP (Universelle Selbstladepistole or \"universal self-loading pistol\") is a semi-automatic pistol developed in Germany by Heckler & Koch GmbH (H&K) of Oberndorf am Neckar, as an alternative for the P7 series of handguns.
One of the most important features of the USP is the mechanical recoil reduction system. This system is incorporated into the recoil spring assembly, which is positioned below the barrel and contains a heavy, captive coil spring around the guide rod. This is designed exclusively to buffer the slide and barrel while reducing recoil impact on the pistol parts. This system often lowers the recoil forces felt by the shooter by nearly 30%. The USP recoil reduction system is insensitive to ammunition types, but does not need adjusting or maintenance, and functions efficiently in all USP models. Utilizing this type of same recoil reduction method, the related H&K Mk 23/.45 ACP pistol fired more than 30,000 high pressure (+P) cartridges, plus an additional 6,000 proof loads, without deterioration or excessive wear to any primary elements. Abuse and function testing of USPs have observed beyond 20,000 rounds of .40 S&W fired without a component malfunction.

The USP is among the best pistols ever conceived. It is efficient, light in weight, smooth firing, and has an above average trigger, particularly for a service pistol. If you are looking to invest in an excellent conceal carry pistol, do not overlook the USP Compact. Even though it is a pricy handgun, shooters everywhere certainly have been happy that they extended their budget a little bit. You too are likely to be pleased with the USP, or one the newer HK models inspired by it, for example the P2000 as well as P30. I’ve owned several H&K pistols in my lifetime, and my only regret is that I dis not keep every last one.
