Marlin Model 60 Overview

Marlin\'s Model 60, otherwise called the Marlin Glenfield Model 60, is a .22LR quick firing rifle with a tubular magazine that was initially introduced in 1960. This great little rifle has been in constant production since that time and more than 11 million have been made. Marlin guarantees the Model 60 is the most widely circulated, quick firing .22LR on the planet.



The action is a self-stacking, straight blowback operation, with right-side discharge. The receiver is fastened to the stock by front and back with machine screws through the stock and forearm area (later models include a screw behind the trigger guard to strengthen the wrist of the stock). The receiver is grooved for the scope mounting. For utilization without an scope, the barrel sports an adjustable open rear sight and a blade front sight. The rifle is a semi-automatic and cycles with each pull of the trigger after using the chambering handle to stack the first round from the tube fed magazine. Current models have a programmed \"last-shot\" bolt open feature, with an outside lever in the front of the trigger guard to re-engage the bolt after reloading. The first Model 60s did not have this feature, and it was not until in the mid-1980s that the programmed \"last shot\" bolt open feature was added. This rifle is light in weight and comes in at just 5.5 lbs. From 1960 to the mid 80’s, the rifle sported a 22 inch barrel and an overall length of 40.15 inches, with a capacity of 17 rounds. After the mid 1980’s, the barrel was shortened to 19 inches with an overall length of 37.5 inches, and the capacity was reduced to 14 rounds. There are many variations of this gun available in different finishes and stocks and include the 60C, 60DL, 60S-CF, 60SB, 60SS, 60SSK, 60SSBL, and 600.



Marlin utilizes their patented Micro-Groove rifling in the Model 60. The turn rate is 1:16 inches, right-hand twist. The Micro-groove rifling uses 16 little terrains and furrows as opposed to 4, 6 or 8 more profound depressions utilized in most other rifles. This increases the accuracy of the rifle by diminishing distortion of bullet when traveling down the barrel.
