Walther PPK Overview |
||
This pistol was first introduced in 1931 by Walther (Carl Walther) Firearms of Germany. The gun saw active military service to the German Police and the Luftwaffe during WWII, and was still a military issue weapon until 1992. In 2002, Walther licensed Smith & Wesson of Alexandria, VA to be the maker for the distribution within the United States. The PPK is actually a little smaller than its counterpart, the PP. The PPK has helped to inspire some other famous guns, most notably the Makarov, and the Bersa Thunder 380. Of course it didn’t hurt its popularity any when James Bond carried one in many of the now famous, “James Bond 007” movies. It’s been made in many calibers including, (in order of popularity) .32, .380, .22, 9X18mm, and .25. As to date, over 5 million have been produced. |
