Walther PPX Overview

A very recent addition to the ever evolving line of pistols from Walther Firearms, is the Walther PPX. First introduced in 2013, the PPX is a semi-automatic handgun that is chambered for both the 9×19mm Parabellum, and .40 S&W ammunition. One of the best features of PPX is the sizeable hump located at the backstrap. Though appearing a little different, upon handling, it becomes obviously apparent by grasping it, that it was designed with the shooter’s comfort in mind. The surface of the grip carries a stipple pattern that Walther has designed as a cross directional grip surface. This innovative design makes the pistol easier to handle and enables the shooter to execute follow-up shots with more speed and accuracy, even in inclimate weather.



While the Walther PPX is available in either standard black or stainless finish, many still seem to prefer the all-black model. The coating is Tenifer which makes the pistol highly resistant to corrosion, and reduces the chance for glare in situations where less detectability are paramount. Tenifer is a chemical bath nitriding process that is extremely durable and extends the overall life of the firearm. Walther coats both the slide and the barrel with this “tough as nails” coating.

The Walther PPX has a variety of safety features which include a reversible firing pin block safety, and two “drop safeties”. Given that it’s not a striker-fired pistol, it doesn’t need to provide the Glock-style trigger safety. It also provides a loaded chamber viewport that is viewable through a hole in the top rear of the barrel in the ejection port. If a round is in the chamber, the marker can be seen by means of the viewport.



It doesn’t hurt the popularity of this gun any, that it has been seen in some still photographs with Daniel Craig in the upcoming release in the 4th of the series, “James Bond, Spectre”. You gotta love Bond. In all truthfulness, we’ll probably watching for the “women of Bond” more than the weapon of Bond……………….don’t even go there!
