Excellent for home defense! The shotgun arrived at my FFL in excellent shape. After taking delivery, I gave the gun a good looking over. Finish was excellent throughout the entire gun. The ghost ring sights are very well made and had no flaws to speak of. My gun had the ribbed fore end so no problems with it being to slippery. I added the stock extension, recoil pad and longer screws. All were included with it. The gun cycled all the shells I put through it. It is also very lightweight which is great for toting it around. Do yourself a favor, look at Paul Harrell’s YouTube video about 20ga. for home defense. If you ever thought a 20ga. was underpowered, this will change your mind.

QMossberg has always been associated with excellence. This shotgun is no exception. Great price and being 7+1 is an advantage for home defense. I highly recommend it. And Bud's Gun Shop is the place to purchase it.

Received my Mossberg 500 model 54300 from ffl and ghost ring rear sight was broken if. Unfortunately I did not realize that the rear sight was broken until after my FFL had already called in the transfer. Therefore I was not able to return the shotgun to Bud's. I had to contact Mossberg directly and am now awaiting a new sight to replace the broken one. Clearly Mossberg has quality control issues. Lessened learned on my end and I caution everyone to thoroughly inspect your purchase before completing your transfer psperwork. I purchased the Mossberg because it is made in America and I assumed that the quality control and overall quality would be better than comparable imports, I was safely mistaken and this will be the last Mossberg that I purchase.

Rather disappointed with this shotgun. The first thing I noticed was that the forend has a nylon strap attached underneath with four screws; this was not depicted in the description. It may have functionality for some users, but to me it just looks silly. I removed it easily enough. The second thing I noticed, after arriving home from my FFL dealer, was a long, vertical scratch on the right side of the receiver, about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Not deep, but it definitely took some of the finish off. There were other smaller, lighter scratches on the same side, and overall the finish was a little uneven-- so despite the decent packaging, the quality control was not there. I bought this shotgun as a lighter alternative to my Remington 870 Express model 5077; both guns have a similar style. The Mossberg has a shorter length of pull than the Remington, which also appealed to me, plus the fact that it also comes with an extension for the the stock if you want a slightly longer length of pull. I ended up using the extension, which is held in place with two long screws, but the upper screw stripped, even though I was trying to only snug it down. The extension and butt plate seem to be attached firmly enough, but I suspect they may loosen in time. Another issue with the shotgun is one apparently common to the Model 500 that I knew about in advance. Still, I was rather surprised at the amount of play in the forend and action bars. Compared to my Remington, this forend rolls like a torsion bar-- it's a little unsettling. The PROS: The adjustable ghost ring rear sights with the fluorescent orange front sight are decent enough. The gun is light and maneuverable, and the safety is located on the top of the receiver. The slide release is close to the trigger guard and is easier to operate than on the Remington 5077. These features, though, do not make up for the poor quality control, uneven finish, and somewhat cheap feel to this gun. I expected more from well-established American manufacturer; I paid about the same for this gun as I did for my Remington, and the Remington is by far much higher in quality.

A:You can. You can also add a "Decelerator Pad" for 30 to 40% recoil reduction as well : https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/714004366/pkmyr+decelerator+slip-on+pad+blk+mSee 5 more answers | -

A:Michael, these are the exact same shotguns model 54300. Someone at Buds used the model number instead of the UPC code on the "Persuader" listing and inadvertently created 2 listings for the same shotgun. The difference in cost is because of the difference of the number in stock of each listing.See 1 more answer |
