Bought this to get my daughter started with shooting, perfect little starter rifle. Couple thousand rounds with no problems. Haven't found a round it wont take. Scope that comes with it is cheap but works, it was the first thing I changed. Good accurate little fifle. As always excellent experience with buds as well.

The rifle is nice. I haven't shot it yet, but I know what I am in for by the previous reviews. I am sure it will be in line with those!

Out of all of the firearms I've purchased for Buds (6) this it the first one I have had legitimate problems with. The gun looked great ill give Savage that, once I got it home and took it out side to try it out I put one in the chamber and filed the mag to capacity (10) first shot fired and ejected, pulled the trigger again, nothing.. It jammed on the second round! So I figured it was just the mag so I went to big 5 and bought 2 more and they both did the same thing, I followed some Internet guides and filed the mags down like they said to no avail. I still cannot get it to shoot a full mag but it will do a mag with 7-8 rounds flawlessly, maybe 9 if I'm feeling bold that day. But the worst part about the jamming is it ruins the round, where it hits the receiver it puts a big dent in the bullet so I ended up throwing away 50 rounds because they wouldn't work in any of my .22s! It's awful having to throw away ammo that is so hard to buy. So my advice, if you get the gun, is to try and put 7-8 rounds in the mag to start and work your way up to see if it has the same problem, that way you "fix" the mag feed problem ASAP so you don't waste any ammo. It's terribly frustrating to get a new gun and it not function properly.

Buds is over the top. Great products, prices, and fast delivery. Using the Savage to teach son about firearms and shooting. Really a simple weapon and nice package for beginner.

New in box, so just what you'd expect, shipping was a little slow, but I understand being swamped right before Christmas

not a bad little .22 I did have trouble with the mag not feeding right , it would jam up if you had all 10 rounds in it , I had to file down the front it had a sharp edge on it causing the bullet to get caught on it , and this would cause FTF , once I filed it down in a few places the mag loads and feeds fine now and the rifle itself shoots straight for the money I paid for it ($120) good little shooter.....
getting a 3 because of having to work on the mag otherwise , probably a 4

Rifle is really accurate and fun to shoot.I agree with the guy below me, the scope is a cheap tasco.Walmart sells betterones for 7 bucks Anywho the price of this gun acannot be beat.Good luck tryingto buy an extra magazine every store i saw on the net were sold out.The only thing I reallly hate is how cumbersome the magazine release is.My fingers get sore from pressing it repeatedly.I really hope savage fixes this problem.

Shoots well no complaints. Scope dialed in easy. I added sling studs and a sling. It absolutely works right out of the box and accurate too. The Magazine catch is a little awkward but you get used to it.

Nice rifle, eats all sorts of ammo. Half way thru a brick with no hick-ups at all.
The scope:
Knowing more info about the scope, I would not have ordered the combo. The scope is chintzy with a very small field of view. Save some money and buy the rifle with out the scope. Then purchase a better scope.
Mechanics:
The thumb safety was not cumbersome as I thought it would be. Especially being taught all those years of " FINGER FIRE THUMB SAFE". The bolt lock, I did find cumbersome at first, as this rifle has a manual bolt lock. It consists of pushing the charging handle inward at a specific notch. The magazine release takes some getting used to. But once you acquaint yourself with the rifle and how it functions I found this to be a very fun plinking rifle.
I would suggest this to a budget minded individual looking to stretch their dollar.
