As the first pistol equipped with a firing pin lock, the P99 AS combines the advantages of the traditional Double Action System with Single Action Anti-Stress trigger. The P99 provides the shooter with a user-friendliness previously found only in hammer fired pistols.Traditional Double Action - The anti-stress trigger makes the P99 one of the world's safest firearms by preventing unintentional "reflex" firing in stressful situations. The decisive innovation: When the slide is racked completely to the rear upon loading, the trigger remains in the forward position for the first shot; not only in the double action trigger mode, but also in the single action mode. The trigger travel is .551" long in the anti-stress mode (at 4.4 lbs. trigger force), preventing inadvertent firing. On all subsequent shots, the trigger travel is reduced to .314" (at the same trigger force) and this permits firing in rapid sequence, due to the quick reset of the P99 trigger. The P99 AS is equipped with a decocking button to safely decock the striker. It acts as an automatic safety and is integrated directly into the slide to prevent snagging on clothing even if the gun is drawn quickly.

Specifications:

  • Weight: 21.3 oz.
  • # of Mags: 2
  • Overall Length: 7.1"

No idea why the P99 didn’t catch on. Its a striker fired da/sa pistol and its DA trigger pull is smoother than any around. I had one of these in the 90s in .40SW and sold it because I don’t care for .40. But in 9mm?? Love this gun. Grab one while you can.

It’s a shame the P99 never really caught on in the US. It had the best striker fired trigger over 20 years ago! Now that Walther has announced the “final edition,” get one while you can. You won’t be sorry. Super high quality, soft recoiling, naturally pointing German perfection. Stop buying Turkish clones and get the real thing while lasts!

I love everything about this gun. Ergonomics are great, it shoots well and accurately, and after thousands of rounds at the range it’s as reliable as anyone could ask for.

The Walther P99 AS is hands down my favorite polymer wonder 9. It's single action trigger and reset are the best on the market, and the de-cock double action feature (which does not have to be utilized) is profoundly useful in that it renders the gun safer to carry and allows double-strike capability. It is sad that Walther decided to discontinue this remarkable pistol.

The Walther P99 is a really good gun. Has a great trigger system, even though it's striker fired the trigger is very similar to a traditional DA/SA trigger which I strongly prefer. And having a decocker is a really nice feature. Extremely reliable, never had a problem with the two I've owned. But there are two weaknesses to the design, in my opinion. 1) While the grip has a great shape, it is too slick - a grip sleeve or something like Talon grip tape will help but I personally don't like either of those workaround solutions. 2) The slide's cocking serrations are not aggressive enough - too shallow and this problem is exacerbated by the inward curve shape of the slide and the top half of the serrations being on the curve, making racking the slide with wet or even damp hands difficult.

So far, I've enjoyed shooting this gun. The Walther ergonomics are great, and it has fired flawlessly. The magazines eject smoothly, and the trigger is smooth with a crisp break and a short reset. The paddle release is a little strange, and requires some getting used to. I already own a PPQ M2, and training the brain to switch between them is causing a little cognitive disidence, especially since I use the PPQ as a duty pistol. All in all, the P99 is a first class, if underrated firearm.

First Polymer 9mm, and I love it, Fit and finish is great. Only things I would change (note this handgun was designed about 20 years ago), recoil guide rod is polymer, and hand grip is a little slick but I love the form. 3 sizes of interchangeable backstraps and 4 different polymer sights. For its price these things are easily modified or changed, but pistol is perfect as is really, unless you have trouble with the grip. If you do then there are multiple options as to remedy this. I ended up buying traction grips, but havent put them on because I have gotten used to the grip as is. If You like the way it looks you may love the way it feels and shoots. First upgrade would be sights though. Trigger is perfect.

The next generation of a classic pistol.
I grew up with Pierce Brosnan playing James Bond, and I’ve always loved the P99. It arrived on time at my FFL, and in perfect condition, which I expected. The fit and finish are precisely the level of German quality you’d expect from Walther. I haven’t had a chance to take it to the range yet, but I’ve been doing a lot of dry fire practice with the trigger, which is certainly unique. After spending some time with the trigger, and getting used to the paddle magazine release, my 1911 feels like a caveman’s club. The interchangeable backstraps are a bit more difficult to swap out than on other pistols, but I don’t see that as an issue, as I plan to shoot it and figure out which one fits my hand best, and then throw a talon grip on it.
Additionally: If you’re looking to put a light on this pistol, I highly recommend the Streamlight TLR-7 A. It fits flush, and really fits well with the lines of the pistol... And if you don’t care about aesthetics, it’s a sweet 500 lumen light with a 1.5 hour runtime, and they really fixed the switches on the newer A model.

I am extremely happy with my purchase. For me, the P99 AS is a versatile size handgun and the ergonomics allow me a near perfect grip. Craftsmanship is A+, condition of the firearm was flawless. Safety features of the AS model provide the correct amount of security for my preferences and use case. Transaction and shipping was fast and the FFL transaction was also seamless. Overall the purchase was 100% as expected. Will definitely buy again from Buds. No question. I am now a proud member of the Buds and Walther families.
