This has to be the most accurate rifle I own within 100yrds. The loading sucks and there's no sugar coating it, you'll get used to it but don't let it persuade you away from the rifle. The only feeding issues I've had was using the butler creek 25 rd magazine. I put a Boyds stock on it and it's beautiful overall. I actually sold this rifle to get some cash and later went and bought it back when I could. I've sold at least 7 guns and this is only one I regretted and went to get back. My only regret was not getting one with iron sights. READ THOSE DESCRIPTIONS. Rest assured this rifle is a great option and well worth the money.

I bought my savage a22 for $201.00 a few months ago, what a nice rifle! Smooth shooting and not too difficult to field strip and clean. The iron sights are not usable, cannot get a sigh picture. Definitely a scope or red dot rifle, shoots very accurate with the right optic. I wouldn't hesitate buying this rifle if your on the fence, you will like it. Thanks for another great rifle buds!

The sights are non-existent, so if you intended to use these sights good luck hitting anything your aiming at. I also purchased this during Savage's $50 rebate offer. It took me over 2 hours cumulative with several phone calls and emails to the company that handles Savage Arms rebates. I provided my receipt from Buds, the UPC code on the box from Buds, the actual serial number of the rifle, and this still was not good enough for Savage Rebates. They wanted what they call "proof of shipping." I was at a loss for words. This went on for so long I even emailed them a picture of the rifle, picture of the serial number, picture of the receipt and a PDF copy emailed to them of the bill from Buds. Still they wanted proof of shipping. After several calls and several emails I received a call and they said they would make a "1 time exception" and give me the $50. I can wholeheartedly recommend that anyone contemplating purchasing a Savage A22 should look at other 22 rifles that Bud's has to offer. I was able to sell it and broke even with the $50, they finally mailed me 3 months later. If you buy a Savage during a rebate program good luck, you will need it. The A22 has poor sights, the rotary magazine does not work as well as a 10/22. Buy a Henry, a Ruger, or a Marllin you will be a lot more happier you did.

Great rifle and great price. Took it out of the box at the range and ran around 10 different kinds of ammo from 1050 FPS to 1650 FPS and it never skipped a beat.

Purchased the Savage A22 Long Rifle for a squirrel gun. It did not come with bases, I happened to have a set off of my savage A17 that fit it. I mounted a 3-9x40 burris on it. I cleaned the rifling before taking it out to test ammo. I used CCI standard and Remington Gold High Velocity and tested everything at 50 yards. I started with the CCI standard with the first 5 shots in about a 1.250" circle out of the clean barrel with the first shot starting low and the rest slowly climbing up. I then shot 5 more and those shots where all inside of a nickel. I went on to test the Remingtons out of it and they shot a 10 shot group around 1.5" so I didn't test them again. I went on and shot 2 more 10 shot groups with the CCI's and both groups a quarter would cover with most of the shots a nickel would cover. The trigger pull is pretty heavy even with the accu trigger, but as far as accuracy it will be plenty accurate to shoot head shots on squirrels at 50 yards. For the price and the accuracy I would say you will be able to use this rifle for its intended purpose. I did have to take the tip part of the rear sight off for the scope to fit.

Came with open sights but definitely not suited for it - very awkward trying to line up with them, at least compared to my 60 or Marlin 39. Seems the gun was definitely made to install optics. In fact, it arrived with no tap screws in the receiver, just 4 open holes and exposed threads. I'm scoping it anyways but called Savage just the same to see if that was proper. They said yep, no tap screws included, and yep, they counted on everybody who buys one to put a scope or dot on it.
I got the call from Bud's for this review before i had a chance to shoot it so can't comment on performance, but I absolutely love everything else about the gun. Instructions in manual are thorough and easy to follow. First-time disassembly went smooth and took about 15 minutes, about 10 to reassemble, and that will improve. Best trigger among all .22's that I own. Can't wait to shoot it - got to wait a couple more weeks for the chance.

Sights are to low can't get a sight picture. After a couple hundred rounds the sights completely fell off the gun, lucky I found them. Also receiver is tapped for a scope but NO plugs, holes just open to fill with dirt. But I guess I'll mount an optic after all since the iron sights are junk. Rifle did cycle bulk ammo with no issues.

Sweet rifle right out of the box. LOVE that Accu-trigger. Have tried High and Standard velocity ammunition at 50 feet Indoor. If it goes bang this gun will shoot it accurately. Can't beat this gun for the cost.
