I am a USMC vet who served when the M1911A1 was the issued sidearm, so I had to qualify with it. Have owned one for years, but for various reasons, did not shoot much for a number of years until recently. Decided to try an updated version and fired a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry II at local range and really liked the trigger--no slack, light pressure to make it go 'bang' and the gun fit my hand well too. Just liked everything about it, so I bought one. First time at the range was a near disaster! Misfired, FTE galore, rounds stuck in chamber--you name it, about 40-50% of 120 or so rounds fired using 115 gr bullets of various brands. All performed similarly. I was very disappointed with this pistol, but spoke with range personnel, who suggested that this really was an excellent pistol with close tolerance (tight), which probably needed a 'break-in' period AND that I should use a heavier load during the break-in. So I switched to heavier loads on my next range visit and shot about 250 rounds of various brands with NO problem whatsoever and with considerable accuracy. Almost all rounds within the 8 ring @10 yards. Incredible improvement by just changing to heavier rounds. So while my first impression was not good, the advice was great and my second impression was far better. While this pistol probably will get a few more 'break in' rounds fired through it before I make a final assessment, I now am beginning to get the same feeling about this pistol that I had when test firing the well-used rental unit. This could really become my favorite pistol.

Unlike the picture, this new Kimber has a fiber optic front sight, which was a pleasant surprise. Also, the mainspring housing is metal, which was also nice, because they used to be plastic. I went to the range and ran 75 rounds of WWB 115gr FMJ through it with no issues. Very accurate and easy to shoot. The factory magazine works just fine with the FMJ. I plan on shooting more FMJ to break-in and eventually trying some self-defense JHP.
