First off it took 42 hours from when I purchased it to when I was able to pick it up, that's insanely fast! The gun is perfect it's clean and everything functions well, I couldn't be happier.

The HK P30S is an amazing handgun! The "S" version with manual safety is a little more expensive than the LEM versions but I really love it. The safety lever is only a safety- there's a separate decocker button on the upper left corner of the slide (just to the left of the hammer). This is a great arrangement and actually better than the USP in my opinion. One interesting thing to note is that you can use the decocker to drop the hammer even if the safety is on. Not sure I'm crazy about that but worst case you'd sweep the safety and the gun would still work, it would just be double action.

The USP that preceded the P30 has a pretty effective recoil reduction system, so I wasn't expecting the P30 to astound me in that regard. I was wrong! It's truly amazing how "flat" the P30 runs. It's amazingly easy to shoot well at speed, even more so than the USPf9. I'm not sure if this is due to the mechanics of the recoil system or the amazing ergonomics of the gun...it may be a mix of both. In any event it's a terrific shooter. All my HKs are very accurate, and the P30S doesn't disappoint in this regard. My first five shots out of the gun new out of the box were all touching each other (slow fire @ 25 feet).

The trigger of the P30S is pretty good OOTB. HK gets knocked for their triggers, perhaps unfairly. I would give the edge (slightly) to the USP in single action but I find the P30S trigger to be better in DA. It's certainly plenty good for a duty/CCW sidearm.

It's also pretty concealable due to the svelte lines; it's a lot less block than the USP, more akin to the Browning Hi-Power. On paper it doesn't seem much smaller but it's thinner in all the right places vs the USP. Subjectively it's about the size of a Glock 19/23. It's pretty easy to hide IWB under a loose fitting shirt whereas I usually need to cover the USP with an untucked button down shirt.

Lastly, the sights are very interesting. They're not tritium but rather a glowing dot system that you charge like the hands of your watch. They only glow brightly for 20 minutes or so but when fully charged they're almost bright enough to read by! :-) Much brighter than true night sights but obviously not as versatile. The best of all worlds would be these sights drilled in the center to accept tritium vials!

So far I've put several hundred rounds through the gun and have experienced no failures. I've run everything from 115gr ball to 147gr Federal HST. The P30 has a reputation for not liking 115 grain as well as needed a break in period before it will run right with lighter loads. I've had no issues in this regards, although upon receiving the gun I did cycle the action a hundred times and stored the gun for a few days with the slide locked back to work out the recoil spring. Every HK I've ever owned has been as reliable as death and taxes, and this one appears to be the same.

I'd have to give the P30S five stars. It's about as close to perfect as I've run across, and may even best the Browning Hi-Power re ergonomics! I expect that I'll pick up a second one down the road.
