Dan Wesson 1911 Valor Commander Single 9mm 4.25" 9+1 Stainless - 4.25" Barrel, 8 Rounds

This commander sized dan wesson valor is a good value. I've owned it for 8 months now and fired all types of 9mm ammo, including reloads, all feed and fired 100% and this from a variety of mags.
But the real beauty is this, recently contacted cz USA and ordered a super38 barrel. Shipped fast, required just a bit of polish work, came with link and pin installed and was flush cut and target crowned ( just like oe 9mm barrel).
It operates in 38S as well as it does in 9mm. I prefer the 38S, long my favorite 1911 caliber, for a variety of reasons that I won't get into in this review.
I'm satisfied ( and quite picky) with both the pistol and cz handling of my barrel swap. They've followed along thru emails back and forth my experience with this swap. Genuinely interested in my opinions and function of my now switch caliber commander. Well done CZ USA.

This is an excellent firearm with custom like features, accuracy and reliability for significantly less than full fledged "Custom" firearms like Ed Brown and Wilson Combat. I highly recommend this firearm!! As always, good service and the best price from Buds Gun Shop.

First I want to say the service from buds was top rate. The Wesson was my first 1911 after many years away from the model. I'm amazed at the difference from what I recall from using the weapon in the military years ago . This handgun is far from the 1911s of the past. I'm particularly impressed with the fit and finish of the handgun along with the accuracy I have gotten during the breakin period. The folks at Wesson deserve a lot of praise for their commitment to making a fine handgun.

Being no stranger to firearms and an owner of many production and custom pistols favoring CZ and Beretta lines (cz 75B, SP01 tac, PCR, P01x3 including custom Cajun gun works, rami BD, berretta 92fs, m9a1, including several Wilson combat customs, to name a few) was looking to add another 45acp or 9mm 1911 to the collection and did quite a bit of research for this purchase. The overall consensus was that if you want the best possible 1911 in the $1500 range, than Dan Wesson is the way to go. After comparing prices locally and online for some time, the best deal was found at BUDs and having had bought numerous guns from them before I proceeded without reservation. As always, BUDs delivered promptly and as advertised. The gun was stripped, cleaned, and oiled as per recommendations and taken to the range for a test run against a custom berretta 92fs and CZ sp01 tactical 9mm (both with longer match grade barrels installed so not a true head to head comparison but will give some reference for the review). Pros: 1. Fit and finish- absolutely superb, finely crafted and finished weapon, tightly fitted, slide to frame movement is like glass, internals and barrel machining only seen in guns nearly twice the price. No significant movement in grip safety or trigger on inspection (in contrast to many other production 1911s that shall not be named but carry venerable namesakes and much lower production quality despite comparable pricing). So nice makes you almost hesitant to shoot it, but I buy shooters, not safe queens. 2. Function- 350 rounds downrange in first outing. DW suggests 300-500 round break in period before "combat ready" however had no failures whatsoever, even with rapid defensive drills after 250 rounds through the gun already. Match grade barrel accuracy is quite impressive and on par with other custom pistols with longer barrels. Trigger is excellent around 4# pull with slight take-up and very clean break. Magazines functioned flawlessly, loaded positively, and drop free as one would expect. Front strap checkering and black G10 grips provide nice purchase without being overly aggressive or painful with high round counts. 3. Straight 8 night sights are a nice upgrade and provide an excellent sight picture and target acquisition (low light conditions front sight glows green, rear sight light orange-amber colored to my eye for those unfamiliar). 4. The general rule of CZ pistols holds true with DW. There are two types of people in this world; those who own a CZ or DW and love them, and those that have never shot one. Cons: 1. Price may be prohibitory for some, but well worth the money IMHO. Also, prices on weapons with craftsmanship like these tend to go up (a con for those who have yet to buy one). 2. Don't let your adult children or siblings see it or they will try to claim it as their own. 3. BUDs excellent service and inventory make it too easy to buy another one....or two.

Beautiful gun!!!!!! Everything on the gun is perfectly fitted. Points naturally and feels like quality in everyway. Dan Wesson is right up there with any 1911 made. Regardless of price. Not cheap but you get way more than you pay for when your looking at mid to high end 1911's.
