I picked up my RIA m206 from my FFL yesterday afternoon. I am writing this review on the first time buying process from Buds, and the first impression of the revolver. I will update my review, or create a new one after i put some rounds through it this weekend. First of all, this was my first purchase from buds and first time going through an FFL transfer. SUPER EASY PROCESS. Could not be happier. Bud's had the revolver there within 3 days of order, filled out the paperwork for background, and was out the door. First impression on the RIA, is positive overall. I read a lot of reviews on this, so i Knew what to expect. Some obvious machining marks, Some light scratches here and there, but overall it looks pretty darn good for what we're paying for this. Comes in a nice hard case, with a manual, and the extra black pachmyer style grips. The 206 comes covered in packing oil, so once i got that taken off and went over it again with some CLP. It looks great.
I was concerned because as i was dry firing with some snapcaps, going through double action, there was one cylinder that the trigger would bind up on, trigger would lock up half way pulled and i would have to release then pull again. Next time it binded up, I pulled back VERY hard on the trigger and it fired. After that, all is well. I don't know if there was some machining issue, but now all cylinders in double and single action are very very smooth. Feels great. SIngle action is a real light snappy pull. Double action is heavy as usual, but silky smooth, after i got the forementioned issue taken care of.
I am excited to shoot, and i will let you all know how it goes. So far, I am happy with it. I own other high end firearms and decided, WHY NOT, on a 250 dollar 6 shot w/ a lifetime warranty.

Took this revolver to the range yesterday. The timing of off when pulling the hammer back slowly. More importantly, and very disturbing is that consistantly only 3 to 4 rounds would fire. The longer I worked with the revolver, the less it would fire. I used several different brands, but it yeilded the same results. I contacted their customer service department at Armscor and it was a total disaster. The phone only continues to ring after the intro message and no one answers. The online \'chat\' feature was not helpful either. I completed the online warranty form and it indicates that someone will be with me in 1 to 3 days. Obviously, this is not acceptable to me with a new revolver. I know this is a \'value\' priced gun, but I really wanted to like it given that it offers 6 shots compared with 5. I\'ll update when Armscor customer service resonds to this issue and how they service this defective revolver.

WOW WOW WOW!!! im utterly at awe. What a great 38 special. I just purchased this online of course from buds gun shop. Let me make it nice a simple here folks. For 250.00 you are DEFINATELY getting a great home defense and or conceal carry. Im a huge fan of 38 revolver and just sold my S&W 38 bodyguard that was ok. But im sooo glad i got this Rock island 38. It comes with a decent case and extra handle that i highly recommend changing to the black. More ergonomic and better grasp. I shot it today and WOW. Smooth operator and right on target. Yes the parkerized finish is dull but so what. Its a great revolver. Im keeping my miss lady. Fyi when you buy one be prepared to see tons of oil on it. Its perfectly normal. Thats how ROCK ISLAND GETS DOWN.

This is a great little gun, has perfect weight, love the six shot cylinder, I love the old fashion look with the wood grip handle, I certainly would recommend this product.

I was looking for a basic .38 revolver of acceptable quality that I could recommend to my students in firearms classes who were looking for a more affordable alternative to better known manufacturers. Having lived in the Philippines for a few years while on a training contract, I was aware of Rock Island Armory, and before that name, Armscor. So, I finally decided to give one of their revolvers a try. I thought I would hand it to some students and see what they could do with it, after first testing it myself. I was particularly looking to compare that to my Colt Detective Special, which is far too expensive these days to use in classes.

The Filipino revolver showed up in a nice hard plastic case, and to my surprise, included both the small wood grips and a nice pair of finger groove rubber ones as well. The wooden ones were serviceable and more concealable, but the rubber stocks were more comfortable, so I opted to install those on the gun. The handgun was packed in a plastic bag and was soaked in oil. You should budget at least 30 minutes to clean it off when you get your firearm.

The finish of the handgun was evenly applied, and while not beautiful, it is completely functional and projects a business-like appearance. Sights are quite good, and the DA trigger pull, while not really light, was smooth. Single action pull was pretty good, and thumb cocking (if you choose to do that) was quite easy thanks to the most prominent hammer spur I've ever seen on a revolver. The firearm is also available in a spurless hammer version as well. Weight and balance of the revolver was good. The gun is far too large and heavy for pocket carry, but would be okay in a large jacket pocket, in the waistband, in a fanny pack, on the belt, in a purse, or on the ankle.

Next came dry fire practice, which is where I encountered a small problem. Each six pulls of the trigger in DA, the trigger failed to return to the forward position without my pushing it with my fingers. This happened on the same cylinder each time. Fortunately, after about 100 dry fire repetitions, this went away and has not returned. This highlights the need to ensure that your firearms functions properly before trusting it for self-defense.

I shot the gun with Remington 130 grain FMJ practice loads, Remington Golden Saber 125 grain +P JHP defense loads (which in my testing perform well from a 2 inch barrel) and some Remington 158 grain +P LSWC-HP defense loads. The gun shot all three loads well out to about 15 yards, but past that point both of the lighter bullet loads shot a couple of inches low. I don't consider this a big deal. The revolver was more comfortable with the lighter bullet loads, and were I to keep it loaded for carry, I'd probably stuff it full of Golden Sabers and not worry about it. The sixth shot available with this revolver was a nice feature.

Comparing this revolver explicitly to my last-generation Colt Detective Special shows that my Colt is much prettier and a great deal smoother, but it really doesn't show up to be much of a difference on target in defensive drills. In short, I was able to shoot DA groups at 15 yards that I could cover with my hand. The rubber grips supplied by Rock Island were much more comfortable than the factory wood grips on my Colt. The Rock Island revolver uses the same speed loader as the Detective Special, but the factory rubber grip does slightly interfere with the use of a loader. This is nothing that a moment with some sandpaper won't fix.

There was one area in which this Rock Island revolver was clearly superior to my much more expensive Colt. In packing up to go home, the revolver slipped off the table and took a fall onto concrete from about three feet. It picked up a small ding on the cylinder finish that would have been heartbreaking had it happened on my Colt, but on the Rock Island, I just shrugged and said to myself, "That's what this gun is for."

We will see how this gun holds up when placed in the hands of lots of students, but so far, I'm pretty impressed and I will probably buy the four-inch version as well.

I am very pleased with my R.I.A. revolver. It locks up tight, smooth action and easy to handle. I use it as my carry gun. I am also pleased with buds serv.

Another reviewer asked, so I will put this here:

I have owned this gun almost a year and have been content with it. Nothing new to add to what others have said: it's solid, it shoots well, the finish isn't top notch but looks fine, the grips looks great but are a little odd without a Tyler T-grip or some D frame grips. Great for the price.

I own this Desantis Colt Detective holster, and the M206 fits in it perfectly.

Just received this after the dreaded 10 day Calif. waiting period. I've bought several guns from Bud's and the shipping hasn't been as fast as some others but one thing's for sure, Bud's always comes through.

This is a great revolver for the price but it's a BRICK! Even though I read reviews stating how heavy it is, I didn't realize just how heavy it really is! But with it's robust build, it should last a lifetime or two. Compared to my S&W 442, this makes the J frame seem light as a feather. It is also a lot larger. Funny too as my smaller and much lighter 442 shoots .38 P ammo easily and this revolver isn't rated for P but I'm sure it would shoot a small amount without damage but I'll stick with the non P fare.

Weight aside, it really is a good value for the money. My example has some cylinder play but it's not too bad. The single action and double action trigger pulls are very smooth. The finish for this revolver at this price point isn't as bad as some have complained and anyway, this is a revolver to USE and not worry about the finish.

Even though I love the look of the walnut grips it came with and I have small hands, they just don't work. I went with others and bought the Pachmayr part #02513 Colt "D" series grips and they are much better especially with a revolver this heavy.

Even though this revolver is a big stretch for pocket carry, it is too large to fit into S&W J frame pocket holsters. Does anyone know of a pocket holster that this revolver will fit into?
