Does the barrel overheat?

James, All sporting rifle barrels get hot. The barrel will be hot after 1 magazine. This is a quality barrel. The gas tube, gas block or muzzle device will fail before the barrel does. You would have to shoot thousands of rounds full auto to maybe damage barrel from heat. No worries.

any barrel can overheat if the gun is fired fast enough. This gun is no worse than any other

If I put enough rounds, quickly enough, through my 10/22 the barrel gets uncomfortable to touch. Heavier round and more powder I can only speculate.

James, I have not have an overheating issue during regular semi-auto drills. Your result will depend on your rate of fire and duration of the same. If overheating is a concern, I would definitely go with a heavier barrel from the jump.

I heard that 5.56 ammo has more pressure than 223 ammo. Can this rifle handle high numbers of 5.56 ammo down range over time.

Jason - you are correct about the slight difference in pressure between the two rounds, however this particular rifle can safely shoot either .223 or 5.56 ammunition. Any rifle chambered in 5.56 can safely shoot .223. Any rifle chambered in .223 Wylde can safely shoot 5.56. A rifle chambered only in .223 (different from .223 Wylde) should not be used for 5.56 ammunition. One should be able to find the exact chambering style of each barrel/rifle inscribed somewhere on the barrel of the rifle.

The 5.56 is loaded slightly hotter as you already know. The .223 can be fired in any weapon chanbered in 5.56 but not the opposite. Also the .223 Wylde can shoot 5.56 without any problems

yes it can as it is stamped and chambered for the 5.56 NATO ammo it can also use the .223 with no issues

Jason, yes Sir it is. The Barrel is "Stamped" 5.56NATO and will handle both 5.56 and 223 ammunition without any issues. I have 3 Diamondbacks and they will handle high round counts.

easy unscrew flash hider screw on compensator may need thread adapter depending on the barrel threads and the compensator threads

This was my first AR-15, and my first experience with Diamondback Firearms. I've put about 200 rounds through the rifle, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I've only shot .223 so far, but I plan to try out some 5.56 soon. The rifle is beautiful straight out of the box. The Stainless barrel contrasts nicely with the M-Lok rails. I put a red dot on it, and had it zeroed in within 20 rounds. The gun feels super tight and just the right weight. Very little recoil, and the stock has a locking cam that prevents any rattle or unwanted movement. I'm extremely pleased so far with this rifle, and would highly recommend it. I will definitely be looking closely at Diamondback in the future for other firearms.
