My Ruger M77 hawkeye varmint target shipped in 7 working days also received my Leupold VX3i 6.5-20 X 50 varmint hunter scope in 5 days. Mounted scope per Leupold's instructions using gun and scope levels. Went to the range today and bore sighted at 25 yards by looking through bore and lining up with bull's eye than made a few clicks on the scope lined up cross hairs with the bull's eye . Fired 5 shot group at 25 yards.impact was high 2" and left 1" .. Made no adjustments and moved target out to 100 yards . Shot 4 groups of 5 with about the same impacts 2 1/2 " high and left 1" So I adjusted Right 4 clicks and down 2 clicks ( 1/4 MOA per click on this Leupold ) Shot 2 more groups of 3 ,,, Wow perfect !!! Impact was 2" high on center ,, Those two groups where 1/2" MOA ,, My best groups ever ! This is a great gun , with a great trigger , feels like 3 lb.. Thanks BudsGunShop !!!

Exceptional product. Incredibly accurate with heavy stainless barrel. Unfortunately this exact Model is no longer offered. I guess it was too good.

Ruger is a premier American gun maker, make no mistake. This rifle is an example of their engineering and craftmanship with long guns. I chose this model out of preference for this style of stock and was delighted with the fit, feel and workmanship that Ruger put into it. The trigger came set at about 2 lbs which is good enough for my purposes. A Nikon 4-12x40 scope went up top and soon it'll go to the range for sighting it. Dollar for dollar it's better out-of-the-box than some other domestic offerings. I'm proud to own it.

The rifle is Ruger 101, with a better than usual trigger. I encountered two issues with the rifle, but both were easily corrected. First, the provided rings will not accommodate glass with a larger than 40mm objective, which I found odd in a target rig, where larger adjustable objectives are commonly used. A call to Ruger remedied this, with a higher ring arriving in a week at no charge. The second issue was failure to fire at the first range session. The pin would drop, but barely dent the primers (WLR) on my handloads. Closer scrutiny revealed that the bolt was packed with preservative grease. A cleaning corrected this. I have only had a couple of low round count sessions with it, but it is looking like it will be very good as we are already sub minute early in the break-in period.

As almot any of us that have done business here, Bud's Guns is an excellent store. In my experience they are the best. Now the rifle. Mostly excellent. Fit and finish are typical Ruger-not fancy, but well done. Trigger is very good out of the box-not as good as the Savage Accutrigger or the trigger on my new Model 70, but useable. I may replace it, or have it reworked. Nonetheless, it was good enough to let me shoot some groups just under 3/4" at 100 yards and about 1-1/4" at 200- with Hornady factoy ammo. This round, 6.5 Creedmoor, is really stunning. I am going to work up some handloads and see if it'll do better. I'm sure the rifle is capable of doing better...I'm not so sure I can do much better, but I'll have a great time trying! And when I get a chance I'll try some longer shots; I might get a chance late this winter. In my opinion, if you want a rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, this is a fine choice. I also have a Savage 12LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor which is also an excellent choice. One thing-I'm not a hunter, just a paper puncher, but it seems like this Ruger might be a bit too beefy to carry long distances; the Savage 12LRP is definitely too heavy. Because I own both the Ruger and the Savage, the obvious question is "Which is better?" Answer? Neither. They're both really good. The Savage is more attuned to being strictly a target rifle, whereas the Ruger could be more easily adapted to the occasional hunt. At the time of this writing, here at Bud's the Savage is $224 more; for that, one gets a better trigger and an H-S Precision stock and loses the stainless steel of the Ruger. Both are excellent.

Ryan, no it does not Sir. Varmint references the "Heavy Profile Barrel" for ultimate accuracy potential needed for small targets at distance.

    Hi Terry, GREAT question!
The 6.5mm vs. the 6mm is obviously bore diameter; .264” vs. .243”. That being said, the 6mm Creedmoor will shoot the lighter weight bullets faster. While speed isn’t everything in shooting it sure helps as far as holdover and windage when shooting longer distances.
The 6.5 mm’s have some of the best bullets ever manufactured. They are long for weight culminating in VERY high Sectional Density and BC’s. The higher Ballistic Coefficient the flatter shooting and wind bucking those bullets will be.
It all depends on what you want to do with the cartridge. Both are awesome target rounds as well as great hunting rounds. If you want something with a little more versatility personally I would lean toward the 6.5mm Creedmoor as living out west we hunt elk and the 6.5 Creedmoor’s heavier bullets would offer more penetration at range. One thing to consider is barrel life, the 6mm Creedmoor is a little overbore and depending on your shooting habits “could” wear out the barrel quicker.
Here is a link to a VERY informative site that talks a lot about both Creedmoor cartridges. Either way you go both are AWESOME performing rounds… Hope this helps…
