Winchester 1866 Yellow Boy...purchased in late January 2019. Shot it for the first time in early February 2019. The gun operated and fired flawlessly! I fired 50 rounds of Black Hills 44-40 ammo through it and there wasn’t a single FTF or FTE. In all fairness, I am still figuring out the iron sights. After years of shooting through a scope and red dots, making the transition back to iron sights was a bigger transition than I thought. I also enjoy the rear ladder sight for ranges beyond 200 yards. The gun operated like butter. The action was smooth and crisp and chambered and ejected each round cleanly. I purchased this long gun chambered in 44-40 and it is a fantastic caliber. It is powerful and provides enough “thump” to get the job done without excessive recoil, so younger children can operate this caliber without hesitation. There are plenty of videos online to illustrate the tear down, cleaning and maintenance of this rifle. I suggest a product called Flitz to clean and maintain the brass receiver. I use it on my Henry and Winchester 1894 Oliver F. Winchester collectors edition rifles and is better than Brass O. For the price, this Winchester can’t be beat! A purchase will provide hours of pleasure both on the range, or in the field!

Great rifle, bought this to go with my new Winchester 1873 and original 1873 made in 1881. Wood is a plain grain walnut with a nice smooth oil finish, wood to metal finish was top notch and the fore end and stock grain and color matched perfect. The brass receiver and butt plate had a small amount of tarnish which is fine as it is not clear coated like some other manufactures. Excellent bluing and the mechanical fit and function are great. I have only heard of one negative about the new Winchester which is the loading gate spoon is prone to breakage, hearsay?? Only time will tell for me. Overall very pleased with my Winchester 1866 and customer service from Bud's.

Received gun and was new in box unopened as advertised. Shot it in a cowboy match that weekend with all black powder and it worked flawlessly.
