Back in the 80's, when I was a young buck I lusted after the HK version of this rifle. I thought that it was it was the badest, most tactical cool thing around. Buying it now, almost 40 year later, it is maybe not so cool. Not to say it doesn't work well, it does. It is fairly accurate and cycles well. It is just 1980 technology. It weighs about as much as a boat anchor and cannot be easily scoped. Most of the time it lives in my gun safe. To much stuff that is more fun to pull out of it.

Heavy, battle rifle,2moa more or less with cheap surplus ammo.Easy to disassemble and clean, built like a tank.Hard hitting caliber.Made in the USA.Very affordable(surplus) magazines,a fraction of the cost of other 308 mags.Get one,you won't be disappointed, don't expect it to be a pretty show piece, this is ugly and built for hard use.No problems and eats any ammo.

She was filthy when I got her, 100rnds threw on day 1 with 4 FTE Field stripped and scrubbed away till she shined new again, after that 300rnds and no FTE federal, surplus, or reloads what so ever, she even runs steel cheap non coated monarch 308 with ease. Dumpped 20rnds in 4.8 seconds with out FTE, only complaint is the push pin holes not aligning up and causing me to really push and pull on the 1st pin to assemble/disassemble but its not bad enough for me to send it in for that long to ptr. Amazing purchase, fast shipping, thank you buds and ptr

I thought I was going to have to send mine back to the factory. Finally after about 200 rounds and about as many cleanings I'm able to run two twenty round clips through it without it jamming as long as I use Remington Core- loct or Russian steel cased ammo. CBC or any other ammo with case neck sealant basically turns it into a single shot after about 4 rounds. In the 1980's I had a H&K 91 and a H&K 93, both of which would shoot any ammo without jamming without break in. I like the look and feel of this rifle. I like the fit and finish and the way it shoots when it shoots. I like the cheap surplus magazines. I don't like the thought of people buying these and assuming they can be relied upon for self defense without extensive breaking in.

While I have only been able to function test it at limited range but it functioned perfectly with both military surplus and commercial ammo. I shot it next to a DS Arms FAL and a Springfield M1A. While both those rifle are very soft shooting, the PTR-91 GI's recoil was noticeably less. Overall I'm very impressed with the rifle. It's an exceptional value for the money.

The PTR is one Bad Ass rifle, hits hard and is fun to shoot. Bud's Gun Shop is one of the best on-line gun shops I have found. Since I've purchased this rifle, I've upgraded it with a HK claw mount & Ziess scope package. Awesome............

When you pick up CHECK YOUR BORE!!!, Got mine for Christmas 2014, Buds was crazy so I stupidly grabbed it an ran. Ended up in my gun safe until near Christmas 2015. I was doing some safe cleaning and gun wipedowns. Much to my shock , when I pulled the ptr out by the muzzle , the bore was quiet rusty. I was very upset but what to do after a year. I cleaned the hell out of the bore and hope it still works fine. But damn , a rifle that at the time of purchase wass near 1000.00, you would think ptr would spare some coating of the bore!. I don't blame Buds as I should have inspected the rifle better. But for a grand PTR line your crapping barrels or chroem coat them.

Ordered Sunday and it arrived Wednesday. Rifle came in perfect condition with plastic case, instruction manual, cable gun lock, 1surplus mag {HK 1970 stamped aluminum}in great condition. Arrived with manufacture date of 2/5/2016 with olive drab green furniture {pistol grip, hand guard, and stock all match and in great condition}, HK G3 S,E,F steel clipped lower parkerized matching the parkerizing on receiver and barrel. Barrel is tapered {not bull barrel} 5/8x24" barrel threading and a paddle magazine release. Sights are HK style front and rear drum 4 position sight with knob on side for adjusting windage. Was trying to decide on either PTR or Century C308 but did not like the fact that C308 has flip style rear sight and did not want a scope raill welded on top of receiver. The PTR91 GI in my opinion is one of the best deals in a .308 battle rifle with mags that can be had for under $4 a piece. This was an anniversary gift from my wife and I am glad I decided on PTR and Buds.
