  No this is for a gen 4 only.
  You can look directly down the muzzle and see that the Gen 4 uses a larger spring guide rod, The Gen 3 spring guide rod will fit a Gen 4 but not vice versa

• Q: Would I have to do any special work required to out this on? Would it make my Glock illegal?

  You just need to remove the guide rod and slide lock lever both of which are quite easy. As for legality, I have only ever heard of restrictions on lasers in Illinois/Chicago. However, if you live in a state with rather draconian gun laws it would be worth checking with the proper authority on the matter, I would hate to give you incomplete/inaccurate information.
