Mean looking Slugs. Recoil was pretty intense out of a ATI Nomad 12 guage. Shells didn't extract out of the Nomad. I'm not sure why. Unfortunate though cause they are very powerful Slugs.

I bought these by accident, when the description of the Hornady SST slugs was deceiving and confusing. See description below: It lists the velocity at 1,370 which is lower than the SST FTX Lite and also discusses buckshot in a Sabot slug. I needed the highest velocity sabot slug possible to match with my new Nikon Scope I purchased at the same time. I'm sure these slugs are awesome, but they won't match the specific bullet drop of the scope. So I contacted Buds and was told they do not allows returns. I wouldn't of purchased these if the description was clear on their website. No I have $27 worth of shells that are of no use to me.
SST Sabot shotgun slugs take the proven performance of the super accurate SST bullet and transforms it into your favorite rifled barrel slug gun that out performs some centerfire rifles. With premium polymer tips and unmatched accuracy the SST sabot slug will fly faster and farther on a flatter trajectory to initiate expansion at all velocities. Top quality, well designed shells are very effective within their range limitations and buckshot delivers a velocity of 1,370 fps with 8 pellets of 00 buckshot.
Like I said, I'm sure these slugs are awesome for the right application, but not for me. It's Bud's policies I am not happy with.

Out of FIVE STARS I would give the Hornady SST's FIVE STARS Last year during hunting season My son using the 12 ga SST's and Benelli M2 dropped a SIKA Cow at a verified range or 235 yds. I verified the range with a Laser Range Finder and pace... He had to elevate to get the hit but it did it's job. He hit it in the neck and the sika was pointing South , when hit it flipped and ended up pointing North and dropped right there.. Any of the Deer or Sika we harvested with the Hornady SST's never went more than a few feet , the SST's are AWESOME. You can count on " DEAD ON " performance every time. GH & MH

    Gerry, the only way to know for sure is to try a box or two Sir. If it functions fine, and it likely will, then stock up. Some firearms can be finicky even between the same model. Cheers!

  • Q: Would it damage the barrel in any way if fired from a smooth bore barrel or just not be as accurate?

    Been using these about 6-7 years and love them. I shoot both smooth barrel and rifled. In a rifled barrel they will shoot 1-2- inch groups at a 100 yards and are devastating. I shot a little 12 point whitetail last year and the damage was like my 30-06 or 300 Wby. Now out of the smooth bore they are about the same as foster slugs, just faster. I only get about 4-5 inch groups with these in my smooth bore. There is zero damage to your bore because instead of lead, you just have a plastic sabot, much like a regular shot cup sliding down the barrel. I love these so much I bought 5 boxes at once because I sometimes hunt on a military base that is shotgun only. I use them for both deer and elk, but have not shot an elk yet with them.
