I like HSM ammo for my original Winchester Model 1892 in 38-40. Most cowboy loads are in the 800 FPS velocity range, whereas HSM is in the 950 FPS range. It is still mild enough to be used in a vintage firearm while offering a bit more velocity and it is quite accurate as well.

This 38-40 ammo is quite good and functions well in my vintage Winchester model 1892. It is a little harder hitting than other cowboy loads that I have tried and is very accurate. I am very pleased with the overall performance of this ammo! I highly recommend it!

I really like HSM ammunition. They provide ammo from bear loads to cowboy action loads. I am reviewing the HSM 38-40 cowboy action ammo. Buds sells this ammo for well below what others charge for this as well as all other brands. I like HSM because, although it is a cowboy action load it travels at about 150 ft. Per second faster than the competition and hits with about 100 ft. Lbs. of muzzle energy harder. I use it in my vintage 1905 Winchester model 1892. It shoots straight and is quite reliable.
