How significant of a blemish is typical with these?

Hi Mike, My guess is you won't ever see it. "blems" which are cosmetic and often times very hard to detect at all. If it impacted the actual function of the weapon, or made it dangerous in any way, I'm very sure that particular weapon would never leave the production/assembly facility. I've seen weapons sold as blems that had simple rub marks, some have had the hardness testing dimples (small indentions in the surface), slightly misplaced or smudged lettering, things like that. I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up if it was available for a good price

What is different on the California model?

The main difference is they submitted it to and paid the state of CA to certify it for sale in CA it will also have a LCI (loaded chamber indicator) added if the gun does not come standard with one

Mike the CA models normally must include either a LCI (Loaded Chamber Indicator) and/or a magazine disconnect.

KAHR MK40 "Blem" , my fifth KAHR and first time to purchase a factory blemished pistol. As stated elsewhere, try to find the defect; you can't. I have a CM 40 polymer/standard barrel and an MK40 "Elite" to compare this one to. The all-metal MK's with the Polygonal barrel are easier to clean than the standard rifled barrel and are heavier helping to absorb .40 S&W energy. To me this is the ultimate "little giant killer" of adequate caliber for its compact size. They are very easy to maintain and the lack of a traditional safety isn't an issue because the trigger has to be intentionally pulled to fire. The .40's and the two KAHR .380's that I own all devour 95% of the available ammo. Every compact pistol will have at least one type/brand that causes hiccups; so just be aware of that rare round that is problematic. Love KAHR quality and BUD's prices coupled with free shipping.
