Remington 1911 R1 LIMITED .40 S&W 9+1 5 - 5" Barrel, 8 Rounds

I was pleasantly superuser that this one was ready to go out of the box. Added 10 rd Tripp mags and it's still a top level competition gun after 15,000 rds thru it.

Very nice pistol. Only been to the range once. It sometimes does not push the next round all the way into the chamber. I hope further use and cleaning will break in this pistol and resolve this problem.

I've been searching for a well made government size 1911 chambered in 40 S&W, took a gamble on this Remington Limited, and am very pleased with my purchase. First, the un-boxing at the FFL had the boys drooling over the black finish on the pistol and I must admit it is a real beauty. Remington's black PVD finish was flawlessly applied and I consider it to be visually on par with the duty finish on my DW Valkyrie commander. I am also very impressed with the fit - no rattles, gaps, or mis-matched parts, with a very smooth slide glide and positive thumb safety. Overall it has the look, feel, and sound of a very well made pistol. I put 150 rounds of Federal American Eagle 180 grain FMJ through the pistol on my first outing and experienced three failures to go completely into battery using the two factory (mec-gar) mags. However, this pistol performed perfectly during that same outing using three after market (Cobra) mags I purchased. The pistol shot slightly high out of the box but one click with the adjustable sites and it's on-target. The grips are a little thicker than I like and have a very aggressive texture. However the aggressive texture does seem appropriate for this rather snappy caliber. I own several 1911s and this is my first Remington. I am really impressed with with this pistol and will consider purchasing an R1 carry commander in 45 acp the next time the good people at Bud's has a sale.

First of all Buds shipping was blazing fast. Ordered Sunday, and was at my FFL Tuesday. This gun is marketed as competition ready. What I don't like about this gun: 1) At a $1000 mark, this pistol comes in a Cardboard Box. 2) Trigger a bit stiff (4-5 lbs) but may loosen (out of the box RIA TACT 2 has a better trigger) 3) At least they could've included a mag-well for faster reload. 4) Field stripping was difficult because it came with a wire recoil spring that binds to the full length guide rod. What I like about this: 1) Beautiful and lustrous sheen from the coating 2) The pistol is well balanced weight wise, 2) Aggressive front and rear serration 3) Tame recoil on a full load 40S&W. 4) The front strap and mainspring housing checkering is very nice. Unfortunately, for USPS SS competition, I will need to replace the mainspring housing with one that has a Magwell (too bad). For the price of the pistol and the need for accessorizing it for competition, I will give it a 3.

I was looking for another 1911, however wanted something else rather then the 45 acp..Gave this 40 sw a try... Fit and finish is flawless.. I think this gun is one of Para's as the back sight has para written on it.. This same gun was sold by Para some time back, I think Remington must have bought out Para or at least bought out this gun and the long slide hunter.. The gun shoots like any other 1911 perfect I would recommend it if you are looking for one.
